When the PS2 came out 5 years ago, they were going for over $1,000 on ebay. I saw one go for $1,300. I'm guessing that as Christmas approaches, the street price of an Xbox 360 is going to skyrocket.

Please don't get mad at me if I'm wrong.

I don't think price will get above $1,000. Part of the reason for the high prices of the PS2 was that Sony was severely unprepared for the high demand. Microsoft seems to be much more ready to handle it. Greater supply at stores like Best Buy will reduce the demand on Ebay.

Also, keep in mind that pretty much all of the people waiting in line overnight for PS2's were there because they actually wanted a PS2. A much greater percentage of those waiting for 360's will be doing it with the intention of selling it at a markup. This means the Ebay supply will be higher than it was with the PS2.

However, 360's are currently selling at roughly 50% above MSRP on Ebay, so I can only imagine the price will increase as Christmas approaches.

I could be wrong, though. The economy works in [censored] up ways.

Even though PS2s appeared to be selling for that price, most of the bidders backed out and bid on the PS2s one day later when the prices came down in the $550-$650 range. I sold 4 of em. That was my frosh year of college, a few friends and I got to WalMart at 3, stayed til they went on sale at 12, then hit Target the next day when they opened at 9. Good times.
