quick rules question

blinds 500-1000

sb posts 500
bb is all in for 800

do the rest of the players have to call the bb of 1000 to play the hand or 800 that the bb posted.

this came up at a home tournament and i really wasnt 100% sure

They must call the full 1000 BB. Anything more than 800 is in a side pot.

yea thats what i thought, had a friend try and tell me that they only needed to call 800 to enter the hand

In this case if it folds around to the SB and nobody else called or raised, then yes he only has to complete enough to create a main pot. If anyone else is in the hand or left to act then it is 1000 to call and you create a sidepot with anything over 800.
