So I turn 21 on Saturday so off to casino I go! From what I hear the Ameristar is the best casino for poker around where I live. Is this true? Their hotel rates on their website are $200, is there anyway to get them cheaper? What do I need to know since I'm totally clueless regarding B/M. Thanks!

Read the B&M Newbie guide posted above. I assume you have a car, so just drive a little ways down hiway 210, there are plenty of regular motels with regular rates nearby.

I wasn't planning on gettering there until around 10pm. Is this too late? Will I be buried on the waitlists? Also, I was planning on starting out at 3/6 since I've never played B/M before but would like to play as high as 10/20 at somepoint in the night. Is it a pain to switch tables, change chips, etc? Do dealers do that at the tables no problem? What about drinks, are they free at any level? /images/graemlins/smile.gif THanks

I don't think I've seen any hold 'em games there other than 3/ and 5/30, along with the NL game. Changing chips, however, shouldn't be a problem. The last Saturday night that I was there I had about a 30 min wait for 3/6.

Nope. No free drinks to be had at any of the KC area casinos. No free drinks at any casino in Missouri as far as I know.

Ameristar is great. I've never had a bad session there. You should be able to get in after 30 minutes or so if not right away. 3/6 is a kill game to 6/12, which is nice because your advantage is amplified in these kill games. Usually 5-7 people see a flop in the 3/6 game and 3-5 in the kill game. Have fun and tell us how it went!

I'm curious as well about the Kansas City Casinos. I will be moving there in January of 2006. I have played alot in Sioux City, Omaha, Des Moines, and the Quad Cities. I really enjoyed Harrahs in Omaha, they have a lower rake than all of the others and the players didn't seem that great either, but there was quite a wait. They have a Harrahs do they not in KC?

I've only played at the Isle of Capri in Kansas City and that place is bad for poker. The players were bad, but they only had one table open on a Saturday Night this summer, I thought that was pretty pathetic.

What do you mean by 3/ and 5/30?

Also, I wouldn't have to go to Ameristar is there was a better option for limit poker, but I hear that Ameristar is where it's at.

What other limits are there? Are they kill games too?

Oops! meant 3/6 (the full kill game mentioned earlier) and 15/30. The O8 game was going that night also, as well as a 7stud hi/lo (I think)

That's a bummer. I hoped to play higher than 3/6, but I wasn't planning on playing as high as 15/30.

Missouri liquor laws forbid all establishments (casinos, bars, restaurants) from serving free booze. Most casinos have free soft-drink dispensers close to the poker rooms, though.

Regarding hotel rooms... Priceline is your friend. The Chiefs are out of town, so you should be able to find something good.

The only time in my life I ever won a bad beat jackpot was at the Ameristar so it holds a fondness in my heart. The 15/30 is as soft as the LL games except for the initial $500 chip purchase limitation. It is a bit if a handicap not being able to immediately rebuy if you go cold early in your session.

Since I live in Kansas City, here is what I would do. Stay at the American Inn on Armour Rd/210 highway. That is the road you will take to get to Harrahs/Ameristar. The rates should be around $50 a night. Should only be about a 5 minute drive to Harrahs, 10 minutes to Ameristar.

Ameristar offers a 3/6 full kill game, and other higher limit games. Harrahs sometimes offers a 4/8 with a kill on the weekend. In my experience Ameristar has better overall players, but game selection is the key.

Very rarely have I sat at a 3/6 game at Harrahs and have played against 3 players who were even decent. Harrahs offers the easiest game you could imagine.
