It amazes me that people can earn $500,000+ a year and still not know what a colon (:) is...
that is all
Not every person who makes $500K a year is a doctor.

Perhaps earning $500,000+ a year and knowing what a colon (:) is have no correlation.

I'm sure there are people who cannot read or write that more than that.

This is such a strong misconception of what it takes to be rich. I have socialized with quite a few rich people and what the self-made men typically have in common is that they don't know how to spell. I have almost come to the conclusion that knowing how to spell is an obstacle /images/graemlins/tongue.gif.
To earn really much, you have to differentiate yourself from other people in a chaotic way, and those who spend a lot of energy learning proper grammar are typically looking for structure, so they are not likely to have this ability.

it's more like it isn't a requirement. many successes are about being smart.
