Not sure how many people saw it because it happened in the 49er game, but Brandon Lloyd made one of the best catches I have ever seen. Unfortunately it was called back on a penalty, but it was simple amazing. Here's a pic of him making the grab:

And no, he wasn't standing still when he did it. It was at full speed. Amazing.

There were 2 very nice catches this week. Burleson had the other one for a touchdown. But Lloyd's catch makes my jaw drop every time I see it.

I can't believe they haven't retired Mike Wilson's number yet. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Marvin Harrison had a more impressive one sometime in the last 2 years.
Sprinting full speed, the only way he could catch the ball was by throwing himself forward and stretching out and catching it in one hand. Not only does he get the hand on the ball, but he then proceeds to twist his body IN MIDAIR so that he lands on his back instead of on his stomach, as the ball would certainly come out from him hitting his arm on the turf.

Most impressive combination of physical prowess (which I think itself trumps Lloyd's catch) and presence of mind I have ever seen in a WR play.

I remember this catch and if this is the one you are talking about, it was very impressive. But do you see how high off the ground Lloyd is? Not to mention the pass was behind him, meaning his momentum was taking him the complete opposite direction. Harrision was awesome, Lloyd's was simply amazing.

Oronde Gadsden had a diving, one-handed catch a few years ago where he caught the cone of the ball in the crook of his wrist. I think that his and Lloyd's are probably the two best catches I've ever seen.

Lloyd had another excellent catch later on in this game. Plax Burress had an amazing catch as well he caught it with one hand and pinned it to his shoulder, he barely held on to it when the 49er corner was covering him.

No, that's not it-he caught the ball in midfield and was actually parallel to the ground when he caught the ball.

That's not even Marvin Harrison's best catch of the past few years. His best (and maybe the best I've ever seen) was in 2001 or 02, Raiders at Colts, Manning threw to Marcus Pollard or someone in the endzone and it bounced off his hands and Harrison happened to be in the very back on the endzone where the ball caromed, and he caught it with one hand as he was falling backward out of bounds. Anyone else remember that one?

Turn him 90º clockwise, and he's a mirror-image of the catch Calvin made against NC State. Much more impressive, but I can't find a picture of it anywhere.

I remember the catch you're talking about, but I can't find a photo of it. For some reason I'm thinking it was against the Lions last year, but I could be way off. He caught it deep over the middle, and was probably downed at the 10 yard line or so. I think it was double coverage and he had them both beat deep.

I'd agree it was probably the best catch I've seen, especially considering the presensce of mind to do the roll-over-to-his-back-midair move.

Before clicking on that I thought "I hope that isn't the Alabama catch". It was a great catch and took tremendous concentration. However, there was really nothing physically special about it. I think jumping 3 feet in the air, reaching up and behind you with one hand and pulling the ball in is far more of a feat than what he did. Great catch but I don't think it compares.

2 years ago Lloyd made an absolutely amazing onehanded catch back across his body fully outstretched while falling out of bounds. It was only for like 6 yards but absolutely amazing, either sunday or monday night game. Anyone else remember this?

I think it was the one in TN two years ago.

I'm almost positive it was vs. Seattle.

I'm from Seattle, living in LA, and I was driving from one to the other around the holidays. I met up with a friend (now my girlfriend) in Sacramento to have dinner on the drive. We were eating at a Brewery in Sac, and the game was on. I was the lone representative of the "Go Seattle" club in the restaurant, but still had to give serious credit to that grab.

I remember that. They show it on a 49er or NFL commercial I think.

I agree, it was certainly impressive, but there are better catches made just about every week in the NFL.

One of my favorites has always been some OT catch by Davison for Nebraska vs. Missouri to win the game in overtime... the one where some other guy bobbled it a whole bunch, fell over backwards/kicked it and Davison layed out for it and caught it just before it hit the ground.
