What upgrades are ideal for online poker?

What package?

What discounts are available?

The only absolutely necessary upgrade is the UXGA monitor if you want to multi-table w/o overlap. Otherwise there isn't anything that MUST be upgraded in order to play poker.

Based on your needs there are the usual upgrades (RAM, video capability, etc...) that you may want to consider.

I have the 9300 myself and love it. However if the only thing you will be using the notebook for is poker, surfing the net, and checking email, this system is overkill - take a look at the 6000 instead.

Also keep in mind that courtesy of the 17" screen, the 9300 is fairly bulky and weighs more than most books.

BTW, if you post this in the Computer Tech forum you will actually get solid informed advice as opposed to my half-baked ramblings.

Also, use a dell coupon, save some bux and keep that bankroll up for when you'll be 4-tabling on yer new laptop.

i see you recommended the 6000 instead of the 9300 if the only thing you were really going to use it for was poker/web surving etc...

However, isn't the difference in screen size alone worth upgrading to at least the basic 9300 with monitor upgrade?

I'd think it would be much better long term, especially on the eyes.

can these coupons be used in addition to the discounts they already have?

I tried applying that $500 one and pushed the button that said "apply coupon" and no additional discount was added....????

I could not get the $500 one to work, but the 25% one works with no problem at all.

And no, they cannot be used together. It's one major discount coupon at a time.

To be honest I'm not positive, but a friend of mine will know. I'll ask him when he's out of class later on.

To be clear, you mean the dell instant savings + the coupon?

IE, you made a $999 laptop. Then are trying to apply a coupon(-20%/$200) then the Dell instant savings on top of that (-$150 or something) for a total of $350 dollars in savings?

Anyways, I'll ask him later, but someone here will probably know.

sdc, kind of. i believe if you have something like a $500 coupon and their site shows the comp at $1800 crossed off then a $1600 as the new price, you'll only get another $300 off to make it $1300, not $1100. also, www.edealinfo.com (http://www.edealinfo.com) always has the updated dell coupons, so use them.

$650 off $1799 on the 9300 is a very nice deal they've got

I'd also say hard drive speed will help, because PT and PostgreSQL write to it a LOT. I'm glad I got the 7200rpm on my 9300, because it literally flies with PAHUD and PT running - there's not even a delay, maybe the slightest flicker when it updates between hands.

I think RAM helps a little but I've just got the stock 512Mb, and it runs fine with that.

PS I'd also use Partition Magic, and use a different partition solely for the database. This way you can also use something like Diskeeper and keep it defragged regularly, plus running at top performance. At least - that's what I did.

Certainly. I think the 17" screen is the nuts - especially if you will be putting in many hours at the poker tables.

I was just commenting on the fact that, while it is a great feature, it isn't absolutely necessary. If cost is an issue, the 6000 will do the trick.

That said, I picked up the 9300 and absolutely love it. If cost isn't of concern then the decision is easy.

I am in the same situation. I have a Dell line of credit and I am looking to buy a Latitude 9300. Should I wait or are these coupons a good deal?

I'd also like to know if that helps get a response.
