not quite the first post i had in mind but...........
Tatoo from Fantasy Island tried to rob me last night. I am partially to blame because I probably did dress as though I probably did want it so I don’t blame him.
How is this about cards?
What, if any, are some things/tactics you’ve seen online players do, at a FT in an attempt to win that just doesn’t seem right or in manner you’d rather not choose? HU or full-table will not be prejudice on any tactics given.
Last night I played in a Party $5 tourney that started around midnight, which was initially intended as white noise for the $20k freeroll to start. Well things have a way about changing and I ended up winning the $5 tourney while the freeroll, not so much. I don’t normally play in freerolls or in tournaments of this buy-in range but do play in online tournaments frequently. Anyways, towards the end of the tourney I would say it turned into a strong to moderately-strong gong show. I might be way off but thought I’d provide the final few hand histories to let you decide.
To set it up, as soon as it got to heads-up, my opponent starts talking about deal making. If your saying “huh?” or find yourself wrinkling your brow and thinking “deals are made in $5 tournies?” then we share similar first reactions. He goes on about splitting what’s left ($5 Party Tourney, $1k added, field size around 1300, think there was close to $2500 bucks or so) at which point I then tell him to click the button that says“yes” to deals and Party’s Deal application/instant messenger (does it even have a name, drawing a blank) will open up when the hands done and we can talk in there. This is where the gong show starts.

If you notice on this hand, I'm telling him to check it down to talk about whatever it is that he wants to talk about while i'm holding A9s, a typical hand I would have raised the beejesus out of and had been raising the beejesus out of against him earlier. I tell him on the flop to check it, which it took him like almost to a time-out to do, i told him on the turn to check even after having nut straight (yes i know, there are three clubs on the board) at which point he hops all-in (hard to explain the dynamics here but this guy and I had played numerous pots one-on-one before we were officially heads up, he knows the only way i'm calling is if i have him beat (i've been loosely tight for the past hour and was giving tatoo a good drubbing) and anything that has him beat i'm betting with before the turn. He knows that I know that he knows (go that) I'm betting if i have so much as a sniff of the board and therefore his all-in is a steal base on two premises..... 1) i'm telling him to check, which for some, is very similar to bet, but with tatoo i'm liberal and therefore will not give him the benefit of the doubt that all-in is also similar to check
2) i dressed like i wanted it
