Seriously, this has GOT to be the most tired, overused, overstated and stupid thing ever said during NFL braocasts, and I hear it on a regular basis, usually from the likes of Mike Ditka or another similar blowhard,(definitely Ditka today re:KC going for it on the 1). NEWSFLASH! There are PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES on the other side of the ball! Also, THEY KNOW THAT 90% OF THE TIME YOU ARE GOING TO BLAST IT UP THE MIDDLE! I KNOW there were PLENTY of times Walter Payton didn't get one yard in those situations, so maybe he sucked huh?


This one is even worse than "He's due"

Not the same, and I'm not a regular here.

This is less a standard broacasting thing than a common widespread misconception among MANY who purportedly know alot about the game.

I really don't see why then the whole game isn't teams continuously trying to just gain one yard based on this logic.

What is so unfortunate is I missed the Dikta in his prime. It's not the same seeing Ditka announcing the game. I've heard too much about him and his madness on the sidelines. John McEnroe especially, not seeing him play...

Ditka was never a very good coach. Motivation was his primary tool, and he had Buddy Ryan before he really lost it.
