1. What is the lowest high card you could have in your hand and expect to win more than half the time regardless of the second card?
2. What is the unpaired, unsuited hand with the lowest card that would win more than half the time?
3. Whatis the lowest suited hand that would win more than half the time?
4. What are the highest suited hands that would not win half the time?
5. WHat are the worst hands that would win more than half the time?

[/ QUOTE ]

If there is a way i can mathematically model this myself, I'm interested in learning. Is there a program I can use to aide me in doing so?

Yes, heads up. At least that is the context in the book.

The book is a fascinating read, btw.

You might try the probability and poker theory forums for this one.

As someone pointed out, Poker Stove is your man.

For example, the answer to question 1 is the Ace:

2,097,572,400 games 3.813 secs 550,110,778 games/sec

equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 54.9286 % 52.95% 01.98% { Ad2h }
Hand 2: 45.0714 % 43.09% 01.98% { random }

While King high has more than 50% equity, it will not win more than 50% of the time, which was the question:

2,097,572,400 games 3.844 secs 545,674,401 games/sec

equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 50.5087 % 48.42% 02.09% { Kd2h }
Hand 2: 49.4913 % 47.41% 02.09% { random }

Edit: I believe this also answers question 2 as well: A2o.

I believe the answer to question 3 is T8s:

equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 52.3344 % 50.51% 01.83% { Ts8s }
Hand 2: 47.6656 % 45.84% 01.83% { random }

And Question 4 is Q4s:

equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 51.8553 % 49.76% 02.09% { Qs4s }
Hand 2: 48.1447 % 46.05% 02.09% { random }

And Question 5 is J9o:

equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 53.2512 % 51.64% 01.61% { Jh9d }
Hand 2: 46.7488 % 45.14% 01.61% { random }

Great book, although the answers in the book (page 101)
differ to those posted above.
