when it was over i laughed and fired up another tourny. But I began to wonder if anyone has every been able to avoid set over set. Personally I am happy to go broke with a set. But I just wonder if I am missing the ability to sniff this out.

Pretty much the only way I'm folding a set is if there is a 4 flush on the board. Or something like KQJTx.

fix your hand or clarify it or something, flop action is all tacoed.

i sometimes fold bottom set, but that's very rare.

I think the capped word in your subject should be "avoid" instead of "anyone". There have been numerous times when I "knew" (strongly suspected) my set was no good to an over-set...I have never avoided losing my stack however.

I think I only fold bottom sets on boards where there's a very possible straight out as well as a flush. A good hand I can think of off the top of my head is 88 on an 8 9 T all same suit flop. It really depends on whether or not I have more chips than my opponent though.
