Take 2 days off. Do other stuff. Come back and pretend you're starting all over and set up a rule that next time you "tilt" away BIs, you have to take 4 days off...and so on.

I am stuck 21 BI at the $55's this weekend. I'm in that mode where even if you win the pot, it gets shoved to the other guy. But I am actually excited, I never knew that the $55's were fishier then the $33's.

Is that $1k at the 55's? or did you dump soem at NL ring?

Isn't that like ~10 hrs of work for you?

he's probably more pissed that he tilted it away, than the amount of $$ he lost.

Yeah, it was at the $55s, then I lost $75 in ring games. It was just one of those days where I lost 80% of my 50/50s, and when I won them, it was only to lose all my chips on the bubble in a 70/30. You know how it goes....

The money pissed me off because I'm about to pay for a ski trip this winter, and it just like "Damn, if I just hadn't played, I could have 'gone for free'. I haven't been able to play much at all lately, and I won't be able to for awhile. I'll win it back, but its just not any fun at all...

Sucks man. Maybe you wanna play lower stakes at school if a 10 buy-in down swing costs you 10 more.

sorry about the bad day.

i find that when i have the mental state you describe, i fix it very well by doing more frequent cashouts.

different stuff works for different people though.

Not meant to berate you or anything, but if $500 makes you go on tilt, $55 must be too high a limit for you to play until you change your philosophy/ mentality about the game.

Its not the money that makes me tilt, its the process of losing a ton of coinflips in a very short amount of time. Ive been playing the 55s for 8 months now, and they are not too high of a limit. Its all about EV, and I get the most at the 55s. That said, I'm a college student, and $500 goes a LONG WAY-

I decided to take a shot at the $55s. Played 60 of them, lost a grand. So now I'm slumming it out at the $22s again and I have no idea if it was variance or if I suck at the $55s.

Ok, if you tilt very rarely it can be +EV for you to play 55s. Try to look at results in longer time interval and remind yourself how much you are up this month, this year etc.

Haha yeah thats what I usually do... I'm fine with it now, I was just pissed earlier, and after destroying my tackboard needed a place to vent... Much better now though. Also, with having played only 300 SNGs in the last two months, $1k of losses erases like a few weeks of winnings. Oh well, [censored] happens, and to be honest, I'm fortunate enough to be able to shrug it off, and I'm very grateful to poker for giving me what it has. Sh!t happens, and there are much more important things than losing money that I wouldn't have had anyways. Ah well... gl at the tables everyone.

Try dropping 25-30 buy ins at the 215s as a college student...thats fun...keep on trucking man variance is a part of the game good luck.

I think 'genuine tilt' is when you lose so much you lose confidence in your game, and you play badly because of it. ive experienced that in limit more than sngs. Every episode of major tilt happened because i was playing above my bankroll, and cared about the money/wasn't confident in my game. Whenever i genuinely care about the money (as a college student) tilt becomes a factor in my game that can't be ignored.

you are basically complaining because you had a 20 BI downswing on the 55s, dude Im no expert but I suppose this wont be the last time ull lose a thousand dollars. So move down or deal with the swings.

Messy_Jesse

I'm complaining because i lost a thousand dollars in a little over 30 sngs- is that a problem? if you dont want to read complaints, check out the "NC"- I'm sure its not the last, but does that make losing $1k any less painful? I've dealt with the swings, and I've had worse, but that doesn't mean that I can't be upset when they happen. So either deal with me complaining about them or don't read/respond to NC posts.

The thing is you really shouldn't be upset. Believe me, I am not one to talk but if you play enough your going to take 20-30-40-50 buy in downswings. Nothing against your game but people I'm pretty sure are a lot better then you have delt with a lot worse. Just take a break and when you come back play through the bad steaks like you would normally play. Remeber if your an 80 percent favorite your not going to win that hand everytime. Unfortunatly the other 20 percent seems to come in chunks.
Good Luck man but whatever you do don't blame anyone or anything, its just part of the game.
