There's many interesting ones, but scary? Nah.

I can only think of 4 off the top of my head:

Night of the Living Dead
Night of the Demon
Freaks
Psycho

Any more?

Psycho.

Edit: Did you just add Psycho to that list?

Freaks.

Weirdest. Movie. Ever.

I remember watching a black and white with my grandpa when I was a little kid, of a dracula like character, with bug eyes and claws. Scared me back then.

Oh, for Christ's sake, this discussion open and closes with one word - Eraserhead.

In heaven, everything is fine....

Creeps me out fifteen years later.

I love black & white, even just for ordinary non-scary dramas. "Good Night, and Good Luck" and "The Man Who Wasn't There" are two good recent examples of beautiful-looking films. Especially the Coen bros. film, which is among their best ever.

Um clearly Clerks is the best B & W movie.

I havent been scared by a B & W but the closest has to be Psycho.

Once you have seen it, it is impossible not to think of Repulsion (http://www.moria.co.nz/horror/repulsion.htm) at least once every day of your life thereafter.

Jeez, there's so many, and I've seen em all, and they didn't occur to me...

I'd add 'cape fear' for the scene with Mitchum alone with that young girl...

Amazing.....that's the one movie that popped immediately into my head. I saw it hungover and alone in my living room in 1985, I'm still freaked out by it.

Me and a friend who'd seen it before took another guy without telling him, and got him stoned first.

I swear, the confused, mortified look on his face lasted for hours after the film ended.

hehehe

Un chien andalou (1929) (An Andalusian Dog) (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0020530/) - writer Salvador Dali and director Luis Buñuel (of Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie and Belle de Jour) do a 16min short where they show an eyeball getting cut.

Depends. Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein freaked me out when I was five or six, along with The Fly (1958). But, I doubt they'd do it today.

Anyway, two good B&W horror films: The Haunting (the original) based on The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and Carnival of Souls. And a creepy Western: El Topo.

Yes, thank god someone came up with that. This is the movie I watched with my grandpa. Very freaky when you are a little kid.
