I'm looking for some reccomendations for poems and short stories. I'm going to get the complete works of Edgar Allen Poe and probably this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1853264318/ref=sib_rdr_dp/103-6163640-9664659?%5Fencoding=UTF8&no=283155&me=ATVPDKIKX0DE R&st=books) or a similar book with some works by Alexander Pope as well as works by Jonathan Swift (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0393094154/qid=1131174899/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/103-6163640-9664659?v=glance&s=books).

Anybody have other reccomendations similar to these?

short stories:

try:
-A dove of the east by Mark Helprin
-Jack London
-Bradbury (esp 'r is for rocket' and 'the martian chronicles')
-Arthur C Clarke (really, get 'the other side of the sky')

Poetry: (for the layman who would like some basics)

-Whitman
-Elliott
-Huges
-Robert frost
-of course, you SHOULD read shakespeare, 'julius ceaser' is a good starting point.

GL, and good for you!

here's some frost, from 'two tramps in mud time'

"My object in living is to unite
my avocation and my vocation
as my two eyes make one in sight"

...whoooahhh, maaaan... i'm tripping out!
