If two people have the exact same hand, say a flush with the same numerical cards, do the rules state that suit matters? or would they split the pot equally?

Also, if suit matters, what is the rank of suits?

In a game like 7 stud, where is possible for two people to have flushes of different suits, it comes down to the numerical sequence of the cards. If they are identical, its a split pot.

So if two people had royal flushes, one in spades, other in diamonds, they'd split.

In a 1-5 stud game, I've actually tied while holding a spade flush (something like Ace, Jack, 8, 7, 4) with somebody else holding the exact same flush in hearts. So, suits do not matter.

This is extremely rare. When I've mentioned it at the table, even players who have played stud for more than a decade have said it has never happened to them.

The only time suits matter in poker is determining who has the bring in in a stud game.

I believe the ranking is the same as in bridge for that purpose. Clubs (lowest) -> Diamonds -> Hearts -> Spades (highest)
