View Full Version : Is this line a leak or just crappy weak-tight play?

...because after the fact both sure seem so. Release to the turn bet? On the river? Pop on either of the later streets?

I would probably lead again on the turn, planning to fold to a raise.

It is an uncomfortable spot, because we're really hoping UTG+1 made a loose flop peel or has a worse pocket pair. There's just not much to be calling with on that flop, and I think Villain quite likely has a king.

If I checked on the turn, it would be because I planned to check-fold, or because my opponent was a LAG and I planned to go to showdown but didn't want to get raised.

Bet the turn and re-evaluate. You don't really know where you stand until you do.

The turn seems weak to me. I bet/fold the turn without a read.

I check/call the river.

I also bet/fold the turn. I would only check to someone I knew had at least a king on the flop, but wouldn't raise. Unless he's a moron who will call down with bottom pair or something, I'd bet/fold the turn. If he just calls the turn, I probably check/fold the river, because in my observations, he's got me beat too often to make the call...If called, I would expect to see K/weak kicker (or maybe even KJ).

In general, with big pocket pairs on flops with only one overcard, if the hand doesn't have 5 or more players and no one shows any aggression, it is usually easiest (and correct) to assume you have the best hand until someone's raise tells you otherwise. Heads-up and three-handed, and four-handed as well, it's reasonably likely the overcard has missed everyone.

So in keeping with that idea this turn is a pretty standard bet-fold.
