$11 River Laydown

Hey everybody,

I was wondering your thoughts on this river fold. Hit my straight on the river, but with four hearts on the board.

I'm getting more than 4:1, but I felt very very beat. Villian had been pretty tradditionally tight and aggressive previously. Was this an easy fold or was I right to agonize?

If I do bet the flop into this many opponents (I'm not sure it's wrong) I bet enough to scare off a drawing hand. As it is, you're begging anyone with a heart to (correctly) call.

How do you determine (in your mind or exactly), what would be the sufficient bet to scare off someone who is drawing to a fourth heart on the board?

i really hate this flop bet. you bet less than half the pot. that makes nothign go away. this is a terrible flop for your hand, and should be check folded. making it 200 pf is fine, thought i generally raise 2.5-3x because i like playign a lot of hands and outplaying psot flop. holla

There's an overcard, it's a monosuit board with plenty of straight draws. There's what, 4 people in the hand? You lost the hand. Cut your losses. Don't spew chips.

[/ QUOTE ]You start by figuring out whatthe odds are that your opponent will get a card he needs and then bet enough so that the pot odds will not make a call thesorrect play.

It's not quite that easy, because if he doesn't hit his card on the river, you can bet again and he ought to consider this when figuring what odds he needs to call the flop bet. Also, he might think he'll get paid off when he does hit, so he'll probably figure he needs less than theoretically correct odds to call.

It is my experience that players in the low buy-in SNGs chase draws, so you sort of need to overbet if you want to push them out. But, you can still bet the right amount and satisfy yourself with the fact that they are losing money by making bad calls when they do chase. Just be careful about paying off when they do hit, because if they get more than the pot the odds were figured on, they may not have made a bad call afterall.
