View Full Version : Funniest thing I've ever done in tournament

Online pot-limit. most players are semi-clueless, they surely understand nothing of PL.

Im in BB with 57o. 6 players limp during the second level. Nothing unusual about that at this table. I check naturally.

Flop: 334 rainbow

everyone checks

Turn; 4

everyone checks.

River; 4
Board: 33444

I instantly fire a pot sized bet thinking no-one has overpair, or a 4 and anyone that folds is profit. Should be able to get 3-4 way chop.

Then entire field 1 by 1 slowly folds?

I humbly show my 57o and scoop with my 4's full of 3's.

Suddenly a few laughs come out as everyone realizes my brilliance and their own stupidity. I didnt count on that much payoff.

And for any of you w/o the balls to make this play.....
Phooey !!! I drug the pot. lol

What would have been funnier is if someone re-raised the pot.

Now do you call?

Nice hand!

It was a great bet /forums/images/icons/grin.gif , but a terrible play to show your hand when you bluffed /forums/images/icons/confused.gif .

of course he calls Ken... for the same reason everyone is supposed to call his bet... it's "obvious" no one has an overpair... right??? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

AsI was positively sure because this table had been playing as passive as it was that any re-raise would come from another wide one for a tie.

Showing the "best hand" is not bad. This play is perfect. It totally confused all the newbie players. With this board there is nothing wrong with showing. There are only +'s to be gained for the future.

I bet out in a tourney once when the board was AKQJ10 rainbow and someone folded. Also got a call with a board of 10,10,J,J,Q, I was full and the caller had 2,2. Lots of clueless people out there.

I say that because it will be much harder for you to bluff against the same players again in the future. You might still get paid off anyway tho if you didn't show.

I never show my bluffs, unless I'm specifically trying to put someone on tilt who deserves it and is almost there.

I did the opposite once in a no limit sit and go.

4 handed, 30/60 blinds. I'm dealt K7o in the BB. Folded to SB who completes, I check.

Flop is 777
check. check.

Turn 3
check. check.

River 3
check. I go all in (1515 into a pot of 120) SB calls and flips over 68s.

That was a fun one

Let this be a lesson on why controlled aggression wins at poker.

However, when I've done similar, I prefer my oponents to remember my slowplay, not my bluff. The more they fold to me, the happier I am. Of course, I play mostly tournaments these days.

If they are that clueless that they won't call your bet, why wouldn't they check their 66 till river? or holding quad 33?
On a dumb scale of 1-10(10 being the worst), not calling the river bet is about 8, check down 66 in early tournament is only about 4

Talk about clueless. It is Limit Holdem, I have a small pair and one opponent after a late position raise and a protected big blind.

Flop A88 He Checks I bet He Calls
Turn 8 He checks I bet He Calls
River 8 He checks I bet He FOLDS! That is the silliest play I have ever seen! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

I'm guessing the A was suited to one of the 8's on the flop and he was on the flush draw. When he didn't connect on the river it was an automatic fold - and I do mean automatic /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

Pretty nice to play against this type, easy to figure out their play.
