(Apologies if there's another post for this somewhere--I searched and couldn't find one.)

I'm in--anyone else? For some reason everyone's sitting with 2000 chips, even though I'm supposed to have 3000 (1000 + the 2000 extra chips.)

458 players; top 8 get a spot on the cruise, 9th, 10th, and 11th get cash.

I'm in this as well on table 16.I'm not happy about the extra chip thing. They'd better make it right.

T minus 12 minutes and the starting chip thing still isn't fixed.

I'm going to be pissed if the tourney starts like this.

So I guess I'll be late to work tomorrow.

if everyone starts with T2000 there will be hell to pay

edit: you guys got the postponement until 10pm est popupb right?

bdk3clash
11-03-2005, 09:57 PM
Just got a popup that the tournament is delayed until 10 PM Eastern.

Also, I think that the 2000 we all have at the table is the 2000 extra chips we've earned and that another 1000 will be given to use when (if?) the actual tournament starts.

tdp
11-03-2005, 09:58 PM
I've also never seen every single player start with the max extra chips.Something isn't right.

my guess is the chip thing is the cause for postponement

did they do the xtra chip thing for previous semis?

wow.

bdk3clash
11-03-2005, 10:10 PM
OK take this for what it's worth since it came from the Party tech support person I just got off the phone with, but she said that the current tournament will be cancelled and that the real tournament will start at 10 PM (with the correct number of starting chips.)

Current play is meaningless and the 10 PM tournament will be "fresh."

Of course, she could be wrong. Or maybe I just am saying this to get you to dump chips. I guess we'll see.

I didn't get a popup nor did anyone at my table.

Just out of curiosity, how many people ended up registering for this tournament?

bdk3clash
11-03-2005, 10:15 PM
Notice that the "Level time left" is stuck at 19 minutes. It'll take me at least a half-hour to bust out if the stakes stay at 15/30.

I have made T500 so far so I'm sure a lot of people in my position will be annoyed if this is just a warm-up phase and they didn't know it.

Someone at my table said the same thing about 10pm but you really shouldn't have to call customer service to find out that the tournament isn't counting. And I'm pretty sure they have the technology to just pause it right now if that was the case, so I don't really get it. We'll see I guess.

I agree completely. Other people at my table are having a LAG-fest but I'm just playing my normal game until the reset.

Gandor

Just after it was posted that the table would be closing, I get dealt 22, flop quads, and get a guy with AQ to catch running AA. There is no justice in this world... Oh well, time to head back to the cash games.

MicroBob
11-03-2005, 10:36 PM
This is f'cking terrible.

I got back a few minutes ago (was planning on starting late) and was pretty damn confused how I got down to 1915 in chips so damn fast.

Then I figured it must be another party screw-up and looked for this thread.

Guy at my table is mentioning about logging-off to be able to get into the 'new' tourney.
But I'm still playing in the old tourney....because even IF it is what party told them...how the hell can I trust that?

This situation is really freaking awful.
It's like they didn't realize that they needed to make sure they were all set to go for their own tourney.
It's not like we snuck up on them and made them start it just for us.
They knew about this for weeks in advance...yet still completely screwed it up.

jba
11-03-2005, 10:36 PM
so they closed the tables?

(i had to restart can you believe that)

MicroBob
11-03-2005, 10:39 PM
not sure if they closed SOME tables....but I'm still playing on mine.

I'm going to log-off and get back on though since that is evidently what you are supposed to do I suspect....even though party isn't pausing this tourney OR telling us what the hell is going on......errors happen and I understand that...but would this kind of confusion EVER happen on Stars to this degree?? no freaking way.

fnurt
11-03-2005, 10:40 PM
Well, basically, there are advantages to playing on Party, and this is one of the compensating disadvantages!

jba
11-03-2005, 10:44 PM
micro --

I restarted and the semis are now showing up as paused in the lobby starting at 2200 est.

that said, safest bet is almost certainly to stay on the table.

hey fellas to digress a bit:

anybody know what avg starting chip count usually is in these things? i want to try to guesstimate my ev of buying in for the NL tourneys because of all these extra chips.... assuming they ever get off

MicroBob
11-03-2005, 10:49 PM
i logged-off and am in your situation. it says it will start in a few minutes.

i've been in 'ghost-tourney' situations kind of similar to this before (where you have to log-off and log back on to find the real tourney).

The disadvantage to staying on the current tourney is that you might not be taken to the 'real' tourney when that actually starts.

This could be a HUGE advantage for some of us who were fortunate enough to learn that it is NOT the real deal...because some of our opponents might not make it.

Hell....a couple of people might get knocked-out in the ghost-tourney and then never return (thinking that they really DID get knocked out).

I think the average stack to start is somewhere around 2200-2400 or so (at least it was around that level in the Sept semi's).
Most players either have 3k or 1k (meaning they either knew about the extra chips or they didn't) but there were a few who had 1900 or something like that.

I logged out and back in, i can see the new tournament but am not seated yet, are you actually at the table yet ?

Paul

MicroBob
11-03-2005, 11:00 PM
that's weird. it is now no longer showing up in the main-lobby.

before it was listed as 'paused' and then I clicked on it.

I still have the tourney lobby open and it says that the tourney starts in 2 minutes.

My hunch is that it really won't start in 2 minutes though (or perhaps might start again, with all messed-up chip-counts, etc).

If the delay goes much longer they will have to strongly consider cancelling tonight's thing.

If this happens then I am going to demand to get a refund that is more than just the $270 cost of entry.
I also worked at their tables to max-out my extra starting-chips (and had higher EV because of my maxed-out starting stack) not to mention the general inconvenience of running home to play in a tourney that they never had.

They've had foul-ups with their tourneys for the last 3 nights I think (maybe more) and I find it to be pretty damn inexcuseable that they can't at least find a way to handle these 'glitches' a bit better.
(an e-mail about the situation would be a decent start, for example).

are any other party tourneys paused/stalled also?

I opened a random tourney to check (9+1, $500k qualifier at 21:30) and it appears to be running fine.
So I think the only problem is with the PPM semi-final.

Uh...I don't want to play an NL event. I can only assume that they'll give me $270 (I qualified via a single-table satellite) or let me use this in the next round of semis.

really?

Mine has not been refunded.

If they just give me $270 then I'm going to send off a fairly 'ticked-off' e-mail requesting more compensation because of the combination of inconvenience AND the fact that I had a greater percentage of chips then the average stack even before the thing even started.

Basically, having problems with the tourney is THEIR fault and merely refunding the entry-fee is not sufficient.

MicroBob
11-03-2005, 11:28 PM
i suspect there are a few players at your table still playing this because party's communication was so poor.

players deserve to be compensated for the time they are wasting on this.

I mean...I'm pretty ticked-off at their incompetence as is and I was pretty much able to figure out that something was wrong.

those who don't think anything is wrong and THEN something happens to their tournament (I mean...it has to end eventually, doesn't it??) OR they stay up for several hours playing this thing I think have even greater justification to be bothered by this situation.

jph0424
11-03-2005, 11:32 PM
I totally agree, thus far only one person has left my table. No communication at all from party so i had no idea until i noticed the blinds were not going up and I came here to see what was up. I dont know if i should leave or not since everyone else is still here playing. I guess i will wait a little while longer. Its not my main focus right now anyways.

MicroBob
11-03-2005, 11:35 PM
just got a pop-up saying that they have cancelled the semi's for today and that they have already refunded my account.

Actually, I have not received the refund yet.

However, if I were still in it....I might consider still playing just in case.
but since the blinds haven't been moving it seems unlikely that they will give the prizes away in the 'ghost-tourney'.

That whole situation that sometimes develops with their 'ghost-tourneys' is kind of weird. You would think they would have an ability to stop one tourney completely and set up a new one...but they clearly have some major glitches in their system.

Aha - I actually was refunded.

They didn't put cash into my account....but instead gave me back my 'freeroll' (that I won via the $33 single-table qual's).

I'll try to get my extra cash for the 'inconvenience' tomorrow or the next day.
I don't expect to get very far.
But I think they should do more than just apologizing and saying 'here's your freeroll back'....guess you can use it in January (since I'm already registered for the next 3 semis).

Dear ItsNotXhad,

We would like to apologize sincerely for the technical difficulties which led to the cancellation of the Party Poker Million V First Semis on November 3, 2005. The MTCT id was 484760.

These problems have affected your Party Poker gaming experience and do not meet with our own very high standards of service and performance. Accordingly, we have returned your buy-in to your account.

Naturally we feel we have let valuable members down due to these difficulties so to show our gratitude and appreciation for your patience and understanding, we have credited your Party Poker account with $75.

Yes. I noticed the extra $75 under 'cashier --> History' today.
It said 'compensatio...' so I was assuming it was an apology for the screw-up.

I didn't get the e-mail though.
but the cash is a decent gesture.

Still a pain of course and would rather they fix these screw-ups...but I am satisfied that they at least took SOME kind of step to correct the situation.
And I didn't even need to fire off an e-mail about it!!
