View Full Version : What Exactly Is Considered An Ace Rag?

Is there a general concensus at Two Plus Two for exactly what is considered an ace rag?
In SSH Ed Miller says:
"We also sometimes use the term 'ace rag.' That denotes any hand that contains an ace and a small, unspecified side card, such as a trey or a six."
The book also gives a general recommendation not to play most offsuited aces (A9-A2).
Would A9, A8, or A7 be considered ace rags? I consider them to be, and also generally don't play them. Do the pros call these hands "rags?"

i think "rags" refer to like 7 and under. 8-9 are just like in the middle. I dont think there are guidelines carved anywhere.

I raise with A8, and fold A9. Weird?

depends on position, # of players in the hand, and the people/blinds after you.

sometimes they're rags, sometimes they're riches. generally speaking i just hate offsuit A6 and down. suited A6 and down are like dirty cloths- a step up from rags.

T9o is a rag hand so I don't see why A9 is not an ace rag

In my opinion, A8 and A9 absorb slightly better than most rags do.

So I call A8 "A-mop" and A9 "A-Spongemop," because A9 is like one of those slightly better, yellow-spongy-type mops that really do a number of messes on tiled floors.

That's some quality reasoning.
Corollary based on assumption: if Q3 is a rag, then AQ is an ace rag. ==><==

Incorrect. In T9 the 9 is the rag in the hand because T is a broadway, not a rag. A3 is a rag, AQ, are you stupid?

Whatever, I dont like you.

I call A7-A2 the Camry, because I bought my car off people playing those hands to the river only to say good kicker to me.
