When people make a request to have their name changed by going to the preferences page, I receive a list of requests that can be denied or approved.
When the new name closely matches either the username or login name, I approve the change without question. When there is a drastic change, I require an explanation. Basically, we took away the ability of people to change their own names because it encouraged trolling. And this is why "new personas" require justification.
If you wish to make a drastic change, pm me before submitting your request in your preference settings.
