im embarassed to admit that all i really use my pc for is playing poker and looking at porn.

i like the fact that i can earn more than my last job without leaving the house. I like the fact that there is so much porn on the net. However, there are times when i feel i am abusing the ulitmate resource that the internet has become.

I tried to think of other things I could use the internet for and im embarassed to say i drew a complete blank. It really is an untapped resource for me.

I play poker, read a couple of poker forums and look at porn. That is pretty much it.

What are some interesting things i could/should do on the net?
what do you do?

I laughed. Out loud, too. It wasn't technically "loud" as my parents are sleeping. But it was an audible chuckle.

Reading any and all news
Reading any and all history
Reading wikipedia
Reading other resources that make me smarter and better able to have a conversation with anyone about anything.

People I know ask me how I seem to be able to hold an intelligent conversation about any topic that comes up, from the Russian presidential elections to why Larry Brown is a terrible coach for the Knicks to how and why Antony's (of Antony and Cleopatra (who was actually Ptolemaic, not Egyptian)) original children were removed from nobility and then reinstated. It's because I have a ton of downtime at work (and also I usually surf while I watch tv instead of watching tv exclusively or playing poker exclusively) and seek out as much as possible on the internet to make me smarter.

Just go to wikipedia and start following links. When you get stuck hit random until you get something interesting and then follow more interesting sounding links from each page. You will learn an insane amount.

OMG, your looking at naked women on the internet? You need to stop right now. Internet pornography is an addiction that will ruin your life.

...and yet you can't use google on a firefox extension. i'm tired of saying it too, but it's just so amazingly appropriate.

The internet is truly the pinnacle of human achievement. It is, right now, the grand total of all human knowledge. From our most basic needs, like creating fire for warmth (http://www.bwca.cc/activities/camping/campfirestarting2.htm), or our most advanced scientific discoveries, e.g. particle physics (http://www.slac.stanford.edu/library/pdg/hepinfo.html), any and all human knowledge is available instantly at the click of a button.

That said, I pretty much only use it for gambling, titties and stupid videos of guys setting themselves on fire.

I used to run my own internet Bookstore. You can see the empty shell of my business at auctionmantony.com, which is now a Go Daddy ad page since I couldn't pay for my hosting since 18 months ago, but still renewed the domain b/c I am an optimistic retard. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

here's the deal.

the web is the best source of readily accessible news.

i read the WSJ and FT every day almost cover to cover. its awesome and an interesting day.

the FT has some great regular and guest columnists. fantastic research overall and fairly unbiased reports. same can be said for the WSJ. two best news publications in the world IMO.

i'm guessing that FT means financial times since that's where ft.com goes, but i don't think this publication is anywhere near being known on an acronym basis by the general public

This thread has me so torn. At first it reminded me to download some more porn which I was grateful for, but now I feel like I should be reading about post WWII Russian politics on wikipedia. Damn ye OOT.
