So my girlfriend wants to watch a scary movie this friday, and I need some suggestions for one that doesn't suck. They can be old or new, as long as they are out on dvd.

So what would you guys recommend?

The Ring, The Grudge, 28 Days Later are my top 3.

1a) The Exorcist.

There you go, sport.

The Ring

Amityville horror was also good

I figured everyone and their little sister has already seen those two absolute gems.

If that is not the case, disregard all prior suggestions and immediately purchase both The Shining and The Exorcist. Preferably wide screen versions. And watch them in pitch black rooms.

They're heeeeeeeere.

Purchasing the widescreen version isn't preferable... its necessary.

I agree; maybe the best horror film ever--and one of the last films shot in three strip Technicolor.

The Amityville Horror.

Yeah, the one that came out this year. It rules. Trust me on this one.

Every movie on here is a good suggestion.

I'd also like to add the orig. 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre.' That movie is just downright creepy.

Sorry to be nitty, but this is nonsense. Zhang Yimou was still using this through the 1990s in films like Ju Dou.

Anyway, I love Suspiria.

The two scary movies I recommend are:

(if you're scared of clowns)

The Ring is the scariest movie I have ever seen. So scary that I almost don't want you to watch it.

I haven't watched it, but there is a very smart guy I know who is truly the god of horror movie knowledge, and he recommends a 2001 film called: "Session 9"

I almost wrote a response saying I didn't think it was that scary.

But then I remembered -- for at least a few months after watching it, I kept thinking that girl Samara was following me as I'd walk through the dark alley to my apartment at night, and I'd start hurrying to get inside.

Anyways, that's the only scary movie I've seen with a chick. I failed pretty badly at playing the "protector," i.e. I'm too damn jumpy.

The Changling (1980)

George C. Scott.

I liked this one a lot, understated, but good.

The Ring? The Others? I'm probably one of the biggest pussies in OOT and I didn't find either of these movies very scary. Both were pretty good, but not scary.

Haven't seen Sixth Sense mentioned.

I thought The Others was creepy-good, not really scary. The Ring, bah. Feels like someone came up with an ending and then wrote a movie for it.

"Frailty" is really good.

I just saw a horror comedy called "Dead and Breakfast" that is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
