A poster is using the screenname of "tiffany" in the WPT forum (and earlier in the Books/Publications forum). The poster is saying she is Tiffany Williamson, a woman who finished 15th in the most recent WSOP main event.

Tiffany Williamson generated a lot of press during the WSOP for taking lots of time to make decisions. She was seen on ESPN's coverage last night and that has restarted talk about her. I had actually already suspended several posters for insulting her (calling her a dyke, douche, etc.) when I came across a "tiffany" post.

Usually, these types of accounts are obviously fake. I've banned "Doyle Brunson", "Johnny Chan", and "Phil Hellmuth" because it was obvious that people were just posing as them to make jokes. But, the "tiffany" account seems like it is legit.

How do we go about confirming this?

You can see her e-mail in the acct. info. Does the e-mail address look like it flagrantly belongs to someone else (josh46221@aol.com)? Send her an e-mail. See if she responds. See if the name of the account is Tiffany. It's not 100%, but it's a start.

The e-mail account is: tiffany_b_williamson@yahoo.com

Yeah, I can't say I'm surprised. The problem is that while it's very easy to conclude that the account in question is NOT Tiffany, figuring out that it actually is Tiffany is much harder. Still, though, sending an e-mail and seeing if you get a response would be significant. If it's just a gimmick account, it's less likely that the person actually checks the e-mail there.

The verdict: Real

Bryan,

Thank you for checking on this. I have registered on twoplustwo as "tiffany" and I've posted a few messages today. Thank you for the welcome.

Best regards,
Tiffany

I now propose mass bannings in your forum, for the losers who post in threads to call her an idiot and flame her. Some of those posts are really pissing me off. If they talk about specific hands, and bad play, and WHY it's a bad play, then fine. But ones where people are just making what they think are witty insults? I fully support some mass bannings to send a message that insulting other posters - regardless of who they are - isn't going to be allowed.

I don't believe that she's a great player or anything, but that doesn't make her unintelligent, as many people are stating.

I was getting annoyed even before I saw the tiffany account.

I have deleted quite a few posts and there were already a couple suspensions yesterday for this.

YES YES YES. Mass bannings are always a good way to shake up and change the culture of a forum. If you truly want make an impression on the WPT forum this is the route to go.

Great post Nolanfan.

I'm available for temporary forum clean up jobs, if needed.

He always makes fantastic posts about moderation, IMO.

Making a point through 'mass bannings' does seem to work well in the busy forums. If Dynasty decides to go that route, I will have no objections.

Mass banning might have even been the wrong term, but I think "no tolerance" bannings, once the FAQ is created and posted, would be valuable.

On a wider level, some of this issue ties back into what I see as the duties of a moderator to begin with. We should be trying to protect the forum from damage, whether through out of control flames, spam, mindless arguments and clutter, etc. I think we all do a pretty good job of it. When someone like Josh crosses into that netherworld of respected poster done wrong, I can see how the goals of making this a good forum vs. keeping it clean conflict.

Alas, I think when people like Tiffany start posting, or Dan Druff in mid-high, etc, we have to be especially careful about trying to prevent them from being driven away in a flurry of insults. The fact is, it's good for the business of 2+2 to have this be a place for well known poker players to post - whether we think they're good or not. I consider moderation to be returning a favor to Mason, Ed, David, etc, for what their books and this forum have provided me. If I can help further their business a little bit in return by keeping my forum clean, I'm happy with that.

Anyway, good job Dynasty, that is a tough forum to moderate, but I think people should be getting the message if you're suspending them.
