This was from Barry Greensteins website. For some reason I find this unbelievable for a veteran champion to get mad at the dealer..

"If he loses with a certain dealer he often takes it personally, sometimes getting into it with him. "

I think Photoc had dealt to him in the big game and made a comment about him being a prick - I don't recall - so don't put words into his mouth -

I know either him or Al didn't like dealing the big game when it was Aladdin very much.

I'm sure through all of his glory Mr. Chan has managed to remain somewhat human. Humans get angry sometimes. What else is there to say?

What the hell are you talking about? When I was 21 years old and starting going to the casino I'd get mad at the dealers when they won, but then after I realized how ridiculous I was being and its not their fault. WHy the hell would JOhnny Chan blame the dealers? Its friggin retarded.

Why is this hard to believe? Lots of tourney champions are pricks. Take a peak behind the curtain once in awhile. Many of these guys have huge egos.

A dealer in my cardbarn used to floor in a room Chan frequented. One night she was working and he was in a game, lost a hand, got pissed and said something in relation to berating the dealer finishing by throwing chips at the dealer hitting her in the chest. Floor was called. Then floor managers. The manager was going to let it slide because it was 'Chan'. The person I know said she told her manager she'd walk off the floor and quit if Chan wasn't removed from the game.

So yes, he is kind of known as a steamer and a moron.
Unless of course, you think this type of behavior is acceptable at any time. It isn't.

It is retarded. My comment was directed at the fact that you find it surprising that a 'champion' would act like such an a-hole and idiot. That's like being 'shocked...shocked' that our sports heroes aren't all role models or that our elected officials lie and can be corrupted... etc. It just struck me as extremely naive.

And he seemed to take it so well when Mikey McDermott bluffed him off that pot a few years ago.....

I played with Chan for about 9 hours or so at the WSOP (he busted out about 10 mins after I did).

He was a nice enough guy and joked around some as well.

But I would not be surprised at all if he got a bit inapporpriate with his behavior sometimes.
No real reason for thinking that. Just my general impression of his demeanor and personality.

He was kind of frustrated with the pre-flop cards he was getting a few times and would flick them a bit more angrily into the muck as his stack was getting shorter and shorter.

This could have been a bit of a play though to try to set-up a play later on where he can act like he's just steaming and frustrated when he finally gets a 'real' hand.
But I got the impression it was legit after awhile.
He was still doing it and was visibly frustrated even at the end when he had 4BB's left and didn't catch anything worthwhile in UTG+1, UTG and then the BB (when he finally went all-in and got knocked-out).

He wasn't blaming the dealers per-se (although some of them were less than spectacular) but he was clearly frustrated imo.

I saw him in the Bellagio room in the room for 'the big game' the day after the WSOP (I was in a 15/30 game that could see right in). Looked like they were usually 6-handed or so. He had his shoes off and his bare-feet propped up on an adjacent chair while he was playing.

I guess they can do what they want in the 'big game' and this isn't a big deal. Just something I noticed.

I wonder what the players tip in the big game. if they tipped even a tenth of a small bet per hand, I wouldn't care how abusive they were to me as a dealer. Although I have a suspicion they don't tip anywhere near this high.

many dealers will tell you that they actually make more on tips when they deal 4/8 or 8/16.

seriously.

i believe al capone (and other dealers who are 2+2'ers) can confirm this.

Stories of guys winning mega-thousand-dollar pots and not even tipping a buck run rampant.

ahh this makes me think of Rounders, when Damon bluffs Chan out of a pot. he says "did you catch it", or something like that and matt says "im sorry, i dont remember" LOL. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

What's the difference between that and how 9 time bracelet winner Phil H. acts like the completely classless fool he is toward another player when they put a beat on him?

The height of restraint and class I've seen by a champ was on PokerStars Two Inv on TV. Out of the clear blue, Eli Elezera grabbed Doyle's cowboy hat off his head and put it on for luck. Doyle didin't say a word and just sat there with his bald head, saying nothing. You knew how mad he must be, but let it go to avoid any chance of looking bad on TV. A truly wise, classy man.

sorry, i hate people who have no life, and must troll through forums and look for noobs, and jump down their throat. my original post in this thread didnt even hint that i was trying to be funny, or that i thought the topic has anything to do with the movie. but somebody has to make some smartass comment, when their comprehension leads me to believe that they never graduated elementary school /images/graemlins/frown.gif
