I'm not sure what game I should play for many years to come. Rest assured, poker will be a hobby for me until I get sick of this like any other hobby.

I enjoy hold'em more than the other variations of these games. What is making this decision tough, stems on the fact I do not really have a preference for limit or NL.
Let us consider what game will make myself a more skillful card player. The idea is become as skillful as possible in a game. I am essentially treating each variation of poker as a different game.

Most of my play is online, etc.

Insight shared is greatly appreciated. My experience includes lots of SNGs and short-handed limit & NL games.

This seems like a stupid question to ask. Play what you want to play. Poker is a hobby for you so do what you want to. If you feel like playing LMHE play it. If you want to play NLHE. Play it. There's no reason you have to play one or the other.

I didn't vote because there really isn't a good answer up there. Do what's right for you.

Rather than deciding off the bat on what game you should play, why don't you play 6 months of 1 game and then another 6 months of the other and see which you enjoy more?

I believe that in the near future Limit is going to go the way of the 8-Track.

The reason for the recent poker craze is television (Phil Hellmuth makes this point in his book). I've yet to see a single limit match on TV. It's all no-limit. There's a reason for that. No limit is simply more exciting, and that's why people gamble, excitement.

The new players coming in are all gonna want to play no-limit. The experienced limit players are not going to be able to resist feasting on all the new no-limit meat.

Where will that leave limit? Nowhere!

I'd say play both. If poker is a hobby to you right now, just play a night of Limit, then if you plan to be up for another hour or so, play a table or two of NL.

The next night do the reverse.

Or play limit at nights on a site like Party, and NL on the really juicy games like on the Boss network that go on daytime in the US. Just split it up and see which you gravitate to. You'll improve at both, and won't suffer from mixing games, and will probably get a lot more enjoyment out of it this way.

While PokerTv brings in a lot of new players, it's not the only reason people play. When/If the Poker TV craze dies down, newer plays will still continue to flock to the games. Why? Because it's exciting. Limit isn't going anywherhe, though it may die down for awhile.

Players are curious. First they start at NL(Or Limit if you prefer) then they move onto other games/styles/limits etc. Newer players can't help but bounce around, it keeps poker exciting for them. I doubt Limit will ever die out totally. It's just been shoved aside for the moment being.

Limit will always be a popular cash game due to the fact that a good players edge is smaller in limit than in NL, so fish will go broke slower than in NL. Thus, sites and casinos have a good reason to spread limit.

Everytime I go to a casino, there are far more limit games than no-limit. No fish wants to face the pressure of losing an entire stack by making a bad mistake at a bad time. Tourny-wise though, yea No-Limit is king.

Limit won't ever die out, just look at all of the limit cash games available on any site or any casino.
