I'm playing golf with a Jewish guy from work tomorrow. I have no specific information on how good he is, but because Jewish people haven't exceled at sports, I am assuming he is not very good at golf.

So am I being prejudiced here?

10 = Nothing really wrong here - you are just using history and experience to make a decision.

1 = This is blatant prejudice in it's worst from and is one of the things wrong with our society.

Well I don't know about prejudiced, but you're wrong.

Also, please let us know how badly he beats you.

There is very high variability within a racial group. His jewness means very very little here.

I like how every single choice has either 1 or 2 votes in it right now.

I live in a jewish community and I'm jewish myself. It seems golf has really taken off, EVERYBODY plays it. Just like other sports and other religions there are some that excel and some that don't.

If you said he was asian this would be more reasonable.

I think the rating system on this poll is backwards.

Good point.

I think you should definitely let us know how good he is after you play.
I am Jewish by birth but not practicing--btw i got better at sports when i stopped practicing Judaism.
I think you would be more accurate if you predicted him being bad at football or boxing or something cuz Jews are definitely wimpier. But golf is a pretty wimpy game already (hence 60 year olds are good at it) and I know at least one Jewish dude who is really good.

You're really not very familiar with your heritage or the history of Jews in the US are you? I'm not Jewish, but there have been quite a few very good Jewish boxers.

I'm a pretty big boxing fan and the only guy i know off the top of my head is (i think) Dana Rosenblatt?? Whoever, he fought for a title against Vinnie Pazienza once and got Ko'd. I'm sure they exist, dont get me wrong.
But believe me, Jews on the whole are very whimpy.
And bad at sports.
But still, you can find exceptions and golf is such a whimpy sport that i wouldnt jump to any conclusions.

You're not going back far enough.

Well then maybe I should amend my statement to be "modern day Jews are whimpy."

The fact that you think the lack of Jews in major sports means that this particular guy will be bad at this particular game (sport? riiight), I can infer that you're probably a pretty prejudiced guy in general. A 7 maybe? Golf is a rich man's game and all Jews are rich so he's probably pretty good. Just kidding.

You probably can beat him, but I would guess he would play MUCH better if money was at stake.

I think everyone makes these kinds of assumptions based on racial stereotypes. It seems pretty normal and harmless to me. If you decided not to play with him because you think Jews are cheats or if the club wouldn't let him play because he's Jewish, that would be a different story.

Well, I pretty much nailed it - he was pretty bad. Pretty bad swing - played in tennis shoes. No, I'm not a hater - just making observations. I actually wanted him to play well - we were on the same team.

your poll asks one question but your ratings ask two questions.

poll title just wants to know about prejudice.

ratings ask level of prejudice and how wrong it is. this is clearly prejudiced. is it wrong? no. just kinda dumb.

i give it a 1 on prejudice. on morally wrong level i give it an "i dont care."

10-31-2005, 11:40 PM
Jews can't play golf.

I was giving you a reluctant pass after reading the original post, but this definitely earns you lucky 77.
