I've never been to a NHL or NFL game, so I've decided I want to attend one of each this year. I don't believe the Atlanta Thrashers are really a sell-out team, so I think I should be able to get some seats on the glass for a pretty good price. I don't think, however, that I'll be able to afford 1st level, 50 yard line seats, etc. for a Falcons game. What are the good spots to sit at for NHL and NFL games for decent prices?

Most modern NHL arenas are set up so that the view is good from anywhere; I recommend sitting as close to the middle of the ice on either side as you can in the balcony. The closer to front row of the balcony the better obviously, but I've sat in the very back row balcony for a lot of hockey games and been fine, had a great time. Just try to avoid seats on the extreme ends of the ice.

The Philips Arena is an excellent for Thrasher games, enjoy.

When I see the Caps lose at MCI I like to sit in the upper deck endzone seats, right behind the goal that the Caps shoot at twice. You can see the entire play develop. I think the view is better there than it is in the 100 level on the red line.

I also like upper deck endzone seats for football. That's where my Redskins (the soon to be 5-2 Redskins) season tickets are.

You would be surprised the ticket offers you find (esp. last minute) on craigslist.
