Can someone technical please explain to me what Google Base is all about?

My conclusion from what I have read about it and my lack of technical knowledge about the internet is that if successful, it would obsolete the need of a dotcom if you are a business person.

Please explain Google Base for me. Thanks.

Sorry to be picky, but I remember it as "someone set up us..."

You're correct, for the most part--that is how it is written in the game. In the flash animation, it is spoken "set us up."

In a nutshell, its a content aggregation service where third parties send content to Google for indexing. In today's search engine world, Google's automatic tools (called "spiders") actively "crawl" the internet looking for content, indexing it and adding it to Google's search engines.

At the heart, Google base is a way for companies to push info to Google, instead of Google having to spider it.

The expected implementation of this is to turn something like Google's Froogle marketplace in to a pure eBay competitor via Base + Google's rumored payments system (paypal competitor), where companies would upload their catalogues via Base and Google would index their products as well as handle order processing and payments. Customers would have a very robust way of searching for products and comparing prices, compared to the eBay interface which isn't nearly as sophisticated as Google's search capabilities.

That enough of an explanation?
