View Full Version : Hang over cures?

10-27-2005, 08:59 AM
Ok,
I have a presentation to give in about two and a half hours.

I have the worst hangover ever.

Since I'm sure someone in OOT has been in a worse situation than I am in right now I'm asking for advice. DOes anyone here know of any good/fast hangover cures? you would be the greatest person in the entire world if you could help me.

This might of been asked before but my search ability is limited in my state of post drunkeness torture.

4 ibprofen (sp?)
1 multi-vitamin
gatorade/pedialite (never tried the pedialite, but I hear it does the same as gatorade)
greasy breakfast a la waffle house style...grease will settle your stomach.

* Stay away from caffine (soda or coffee). very short-term relief.

Most normal people wouldn't drink heavily before a presentation...

I guess my method would be "Prevention"

I agree that I probably should not of drank before my presentation. But how can I pass up a free party with open bar? Thats like asking me not to breathe!

Is that the pill that claims to "remove toxins from your system"?

if so, i've never understood how that works, have you tried it before?

Iron Bru if you get it wherever you are, plus nice greasy bacon or sausage sandwich.

These will be my methods for tomorrow when I am sat here feeling like [censored] tomorrow.

Mix a pack of Goody's powder in with a big jug of gatorade. If you don't know what goody's powder is, you can get it at most convenience stores. It's a big dose of aspirin and caffiene in powder form.

I purchase gatorade by the case for this very reason. I prefer the purple Frost variety.

Strawberry/Lemon-Lime X-Factor

or

Raspberry Lemonade

are the only 2 Gatorade flavors I buy anymore.

I use Pepsi. But it takes a while. If you can't sleep it off, move around as much as possible, do something.

Here's something I believe in: if you get to heavy drinking and you're worried about a hangover in the AM, have a bagel w/ cream cheese and a tall glass of orange juice before you go to bed. Works wonders.

Dont listen to the no coffee people.

2 cups of coffee.
1 large gatorade
3 eggs omelete with bacon (dont even think about using turkey bacon, oh and cook the omelette with the bacon greese)
1000 mg's of ibuprofen (or, 500mg acetominophen/5mg hydrocodone /images/graemlins/laugh.gif if youre so inclined)

Cocaine + something greasy just because it's awesome to have an excuse to eat greasy food. This might be half the reason I drink so much.

Kidding about the blow...sorta; but the #7 at McDonalds + Advil is the clear choice here. Meh..while you're it, get 3 cookies for a buck too, just because they probably came out of the oven. The sugar will do you good.

Interesting how?

Does this stuff have anything in it that acts as a stimulant? i am unable to use stimulants because of medical conditions (no caffeine, etc) I would be interested in this product.

How much does it cost?

that [censored] can't possibly work.

A hangover is mainly caused by dehydration. Due to this, and without looking at that website, I bet they say to take it before you start drinking and then drink plenty of water throughout the night, right?

Scam.

now I'll have to go see if they tell you to drink a lot of water throughout the night...

edit: hmmm, no claims of having to drink water with it that I could find. Interesting. Matty, go get drunk tonight and take some of these things, then trip report it for us. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Whoever posted that a hangover is caused by dehydration is correct. The solution is to drink as much water a possible before going to bed. Failing that, drink as much as you can after getting a hangover. That and your favorite headache tablet should allow your body to rebalance itself.

Original Alka-Seltzer was my hangover treatment of choice when I used to drink.

Interesting in like a little too dense and dark, requiring a little straining to finish. Not the normal hangover crap that's for sure. Nothing too bad though. Its about 5-6 bucks for 6 doses, so not cheap but worth it at times. No stimulants, mostly vegetable carbon (hence the odd poop).

On the box it does encourage water or sports drinks. Hangovers no doubt are due in part to dehydration but not entirely. I totally understand the skepticism I thought it was crap until I tried it a bunch of times. If you take a dose with every six it really does work. Someone else give it a whirl and report. Probably the worst feature is having to remember to take another dose when you are on your 12th or 18th drink....gets a little difficult at that point and those are important ones.

This reminds me of this, [censored] cracks me up:

[ QUOTE ]
# One Star Hangover
No pain. No real feeling of illness. Your sleep last night was a mere disco nap, which has given you a whole lot of misplaced energy. Be glad that you are able to function relatively well. However, you are still parched. You can drink 10 sodas and still feel this way. You are craving a steak bomb and a side of gravy fries.

# Two Star Hangover
No pain, but something is definitely amiss. You may look okay but you have the mental capacity of a staple gun. The coffee you are chugging is only exacerbating your rumbling gut, which is craving a rootie tootie fresh and fruity pancake breakfast from IHOP. There is some definite havoc being wreaked upon your bowels.

# Three Star Hangover
Slight headache. Stomach feels crappy. You are definitely not productive. Anytime a girl walks by you gag because her perfume reminds you of the random gin shots you did with your alcoholic friends after the bouncer 86'd you at 1:45 a.m. Life would be better right now if you were in your bed with a dozen donuts and a meatball hero watching the E! fashion awards. You've had 4 cups of coffee, a gallon of water, 3 Snapples and a liter of diet coke, yet you haven't peed once.

# Four Star Hangover
Life sucks. Your head is throbbing. You can't speak too quickly or else you might puke. Your boss has already lambasted you for being late and has given you a lecture for reeking of booze. You wore nice clothes, but that can't hide the fact that you missed an oh-so crucial spot shaving, (girls, it looks like you put your make-up on while riding the bumper cars.) Your eyes look like one big vein and your hair style makes you look like a reject from the class picture of Grover Cleveland HS, class of '84.

# Five Star Hangover
AKA "Dante's 4th Circle of Hell."
You have a second heartbeat in your head, which is actually annoying the employee who sits in the next cube. Vodka vapor is seeping out of every pore and making you dizzy. You still have toothpaste crust in the corners of your mouth from brushing your teeth in an attempt to get the remnants of the [censored] fairy out. Your body has lost the ability to generate saliva, so your tongue is suffocating you. Death seems pretty good right now. You definitely don't remember who you were with, where you were, what you drank and why there is a stranger still sleeping in your bed at your otherwise empty house.

# Six Star Hangover
Otherwise known as the "Infinite Nut smacker"
You wake up on your bathroom floor. For about 2 seconds you look at the ceiling, wondering if the cool refreshing feeling on your cheek is the bathroom tile or your vomit from 5 hours ago. It is amazing how your roommate was as drunk as you, but somehow managed to get up before you. You try to lift your head. Not an option. Then you inadvertently turn your head too quickly and smell the funk of 13 packs of cigarettes in your hair. Suddenly you realize you were smoking, but not ultra lights... some jackass handed you Marlboro reds, and you smoked them like it was your second full time job. You look in the mirror only to see remnants of the stamp "Ready to Rock" faintly atop your forehead... the stamp on the back of your hand that has magically appeared on your forehead by alcoholic osmosis. You have to be to work in t-minus 14 minutes and 32 seconds and the only thing you can think of wearing is your "hello kitty" pajamas and your slippers.

Good info. I may give this a try, if I can remember. I'll post results...again, assuming I remember.

Okay, well, if you’re going to be drinking heavily on a somewhat regular basis (from your recent posts... seems to be the case), do not use any acetaminophen (e.g., Tylenol) based products. I will leave it to the Med. students here to elaborate on this if they wish because they can explain it better than I can.

If you can’t sleep off your drinking nights (i.e., have to get up early) get your ass out of bed and drink enough Gatorade or water to hydrate yourself. Next, get your ass outside and run 3 or so miles until you have developed a really nice sweat, and repeat the hydration process… 20-minute cure.

10-27-2005, 03:56 PM
Those chasers are AWESOME. I usually take 1.5 the amount of the recommended dose, along with a couple bottles of water before bed, it cuts the hangover down to about 20% of what it would normally be. Like someone said before, your poop the next morning is weird. Mine is green, I believe it is because the pills are made from some type of dried plant extract? You wake up less groggy, with less of a headache, and no stomach problems.
