I did search and found some good threads, but was wondering what the people I know do.

Do you:

Switch hands?
Have a trackball?
One of those little handheld trackballs?
Gyroscopic air mouse?
Drawing tablet?
Touch screen?
Keyboard hack?

What is your strategy to avoid wrist and hand problems if you have one?

I have a mouse set up on the right side of my keyboard and a trackball set up on the left. I just use whichever I feel like at the time. Why? Because I can. If only windows would support two cursors......

wrist problems are really killing me. I wish I could switch hands but i don't think I could move it fast enough and with enough accuracy. I have visions of a mass misclick problem. I'm hoping I don't have to buy one of those wrist supports that hooks on to the front of your desk. I might risk amputation to avoid this extremely gay ergonomic marvel.

I use a trackball exclusively now. For a while, I was actually running the early levels mostly with a game controller until I started 8-tabling, but now that I'm back to 4 I may get it running again. Is there really such thing as a "Gyroscopic air mouse?"

With a touch screen it could be a pain to reach if your 8 tabling cause the 2 monitors would be far away. Also on touch screens they sometimes dont like to work exactly how you want them to. I want something to read my mind and do it for me. Or voice activation or something. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Using the keyboard, using a mouse just requires far too much work.

You'd be surprised how quickly you can learn to use the other hand for this. Just switch it over when you're doing non-critical stuff for a few days and you'll be as good with either hand.

i like using my tabletPC in tablet mode...but it's only 1024x768, so only 2-tabling with it

u could buy a Wacom graphics tablet for your computer and use it to play poker

I found another alternative. There is a foot mouse. It is over $300 though and probably just for people who are in serious pain. I just occasionally have a little and am looking for ways to prevent problems.

I think touch screen would be very hard on your arm and shoulders unless it was a tablet and then hard to get a lot of tables. Some people who multitable and have keyboard hacks have complained about more misclicks as sometimes the focus changes right before you are going to click something.

There is such a thing as a gyroscopic mouse. There are also little handheld trackballs. Those two solutions will let you stand up and move around too. I have a projector, but it doesn't have 1600x1200. How does walking around with a hand held mouse playing on a huge projection sound?

So true. But I do manage to keep them to a bare minimum. Still I'm hoping Orca will fix that part of MTH a little better /images/graemlins/wink.gif

How big of a problem is this for you guys? How many hours per day are you playing?

It's not a huge problem for me, but I don't want it to become one. I only play a couple hours a day max, but I use the computer a lot at work too and I just started lifting weights a little and that can be hard on the wrists too.

I can mouse ok with either hand, but I think I'm gonna get something else too. A trackball is the favorite at the moment and maybe a handheld one.

In defense of my wrist, it's not crippled or anything and it is 21 years older than your wrist.

Ok, I'm really just bumping to see if someone else has something they use and really like, but here's what I'm thinking at the moment. What do you think about these:
http://us.kensington.com/images/pc/K64327F-4272.jpg

thing one, they have a wireless, but I think it is too much $$$ (http://us.kensington.com/html/4771.html)

http://www.logitech.com/lang/images/0/219.gif

wireless trackball (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2150,CONTENTID=5006)

http://www.ramelectronics.net/assets/images/wireless/go-mouse.jpg

kind of expensive and does it work very well? not many gyroscopic mice on the market (http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/wireless-ultra-gt.html)

http://images.tigerdirect.com/SKUimages/medium/L23-6146.jpg

this one looks good and is only $15 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=383572&CatId=0)

http://images.tigerdirect.com/SKUimages/medium/S750-4218-main.jpg

Finally done. This one looks good if you want to stand up, but the trackball looks pretty small. (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=935353&CatId=0)

I bought the cheap $15 one just to try out a trackball for once and it works fine. No scroll wheel bothers me though. I switch between this and a wireless mouse.

10-26-2005, 11:48 PM
I have the Marble Mouse (the $15 trackball)... it does the trick--- I use it on my lap. It has saved my wrist.

10-26-2005, 11:48 PM
mices are good foods!

Newt---

I programmed mine to have the little buttons be scroll buttons---- left side is scroll down, right side is scroll up.

I own and have used choice 2, 3, and 4.

3(the gyroscopic mouse) sucks for poker. The amount of arm movement needed will make any problem you have worse.

4 (the cheap logitech trackball) is functional, and I use it for my left hand sometimes when playing mtt's to give my right a break. it's worth the $15 just to have it around for that or for a backup.

2 (logitech optical wireless trackman) is what I've used for 2 years. It's the nuts, and it's not even close. The setup is as follows. lazyboy recliner partailly reclined, feet up. Pillow sitting in lap, trackball and keyboard on pillow. arm rests on pillow, hand rests on trackball.

With that setup you play with everything relaxed and only your fingers moving.
