And yeah, I know there have been tons of threads, I just want somoene to give me a quick answer then this can be locked. About to make an Amazon order.

Never read anything of his stuff before. Would prefer a fresh start, i.e. not Fight Club.

Is that the one where his guts get sucked through his [censored]?

I've read all his stuff, it's all good. Lullaby and Choke have great premises. I'd start with one of those two.

If you haven't read Tom Robbins, he's someone else you might like.

The correct order is:

Survivor
Fight Club [1]
Choke
Lullaby
Diary
Stranger Than Fiction
Haunted

[1] Assuming you've seen the movie Fight Club. If not, definitely read this book first.

The thread can now be locked.

Definitely not Invisible Monsters.

for one thing you didn't even include invisible monsters, so no you are wrong.

to answer the OP- it really depends, are you going to read all of chuck's work? if so i would just start from the beginning b/c some of them are one-sitting books.

a little FYI: Invisible Monsters was the first book he ever wrote but couldn't get it published b/c of how graphic it was and the content so that was the reason behind Fight Club. Chuck thought it was funny that he got FC signed with a publisher within the first week of the manuscript being sent in (he says he scared them into publishing it /images/graemlins/grin.gif)

i would start with either Invisible, Survivor or Fight Club and once those are read go to Choke, then Lullaby, Diary etc.

Survivor is my personal favorite.

Invisible Monsters sucked...which is why it wasn't included on the list; I'm looking out for the OP.

so you don't like transvestites, thats cool.

there is a reason it is considered his best work though.

OK.

I don't know how many I'm gonna read, it depends if I like them. I have heard they are love/hate.

Survivor or Choke?

Starting now, first to 3 votes wins.

It wasn't that bad. Ya, the story is a little far fetched, but I still enjoyed it. I think the book would have been better though without the last chapter when the narrator explains everything.

Link?

Its certainly not his most accessible work, and that's a consideration for someone who hasn't read any of his stuff before.

Survivor is my personal favorite, so I vote Survivor (to answer the OP's question).

Invisible Monsters didn't do anything for me. In speaking with others who have also read all of his works, it seems to be the majority opinion. I stand by my list as correct.

if [censored] was around he would say survivor and lock the thread.

just go to his website and the forums on his website, there are articles all over it about that book and how that and survivor are considered his best work.

that is the only other forum i have ever been on, haven't been on it in over a year though. i will thumb through it now though.

Good call on Tom Robbins -- Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates was one of my favorite reads from the past year. A great 'one-sitting' read.

Choke was a blast, it took me from Baltimore to Sacramento. Great book.

Can't really go wrong here, but this is the order I've read them in.

Fight Club
Survivor
Invisible Monsters
Choke
Lullaby
Fugitives and Refugees
Diary
Stranger Than Fiction
Haunted

I read them in the order they came out and have read them all. I think that's a good order.
