The other night I sat down at a 4/8 holdem table, and after 20 mins the table broke, there where no other 4/8 tables going so I thought Id give 5 card draw a go.

I held my own for a while, before leaving up $5

It was 7 up, 5/10 half pot limit

I really enjoyed playing and was wondering if anyone could tell me some general theory...ie what hands to call with pre draw (i was mucking anything less than a pair of Queens and folding to a raise post draw with anything less than 2 pair). Disguising your hand etc. as well as the probability of being dealt a hand (remembering that it is 7 up)

Also can u caluculate pot odds for 5 draw??

Any help would be appriciated

You should probably consult the following books for a complete 5 card draw strategy:

Winning Concepts in Draw and Lowball - Mason Malmuth
Winning Poker Systems - Norman Zadeh
Supersystem - Doyle Brunson
Five Card Draw Poker Report - Mike Caro
Play Poker, Quit Work and Sleep till Noon - John Fox

For a CRUDE basic strategy:
Before the draw:
Bet nothing but a pair of Aces upwards
Fold to a raise with less than Aces Up (Two Pair)
Raise Queens Up
Reraise high trips

After the Draw:
Aces Up can be bet against two or fewer opponents but should be checked against more than that.

You also have to keep in mind the pre draw action.

Look at the number of cards people drew.

Do not bet into one card draws as they will only call if they hit.

It is possible to disguise trips by taking only one card to them. It is possible to disguise high two pair by raisng before the draw and standing pat. This latter play also has the benefit of getting your pat hands action.

These are just a few tips and thoughts from the literature. Buy one or more of the books.
