I was off today from work and one of my buddies calls me to see if I want to hang out. I say sure and he comes over to pick me up. We are on our way to Chili's for a few beers when we stop for gas. We get the gas and pull up to the road. My buddy had gone a bit to far toward the road, and there was traffic coming. So he puts the car in reverse and backs up about 3 feet. So then, there's a break in the traffic and my buddy floors it so that he doesn't cut off anyone. Only one problem. He forgot to put the car back in drive. He backs into this Mercedes behind him and nails the guy. He's like "F@ck, I can't believe I did that!". He parks the car and gets out. In the mercedes, there's a driver and passenger in the front seat. Both are Italian looking. The driver is wearing a suit and the passenger is dressed up as well. They look at each other and say something but we didn't hear what they said. The passenger guy rolls the window down and says "Get the [censored] out of here before you p!ss us off!". Then they pull around us and drive off. My buddy and I look at each other and can't figure out what's going on. His fender was f'd up, but still drive-able. So we went to Chili's. I think the car was stolen. My buddy thinks they were in the Mafia and didn't want to attract atttention. What do you guys think?

While at first glance, this seems like something stolen out of a bad movie, I've seen similar things. I went to high school in the Bronx and was walking back to my school from the park where we normally had track practice and saw a fender bender where a middle aged woman had rear-ended a group of young men. The young men peeled out and left the woman, who was clearly at fault, sitting in her car. I figured the same as you did, that they had stolen the car didn't have a license/insurance or something and didn't want to get in trouble for it.

Actually, more than 50% of New Jerseyans can trace some type of Italian heritage, so saying that you saw a couple of Italian-looking guys doesn't mean much.

Out of curiosity, to the OP, where in NJ did this happen?

No, it was North Jersey. Rockaway, NJ in Morris County to be exact. To be fair, like one poster said, being Italian really didn't mean much since about 75% of the citizens are Italian in some way. It was just ironic that they were.
