Thoughts on the flop play?

No-Limit Hold'em, $10 BB (8 handed) converter

MP1 ($790)
MP2 ($1228)
Hero ($1000)
Button ($950)
SB ($1040)
BB ($1000)
UTG ($1596.10)
UTG+1 ($200)

Preflop: Hero is CO with A, K. Hero posts a blind of $10.
4 folds, Hero (poster) raises to $40, Button calls $40, 2 folds.

Flop: ($95) K, 8, 6 (2 players)
Hero bets $45, Button raises to $150, Hero raises to $960, Button calls $760 (All-In).

Edit: The flop was two-tone. My Ace-King was suited in a different suit.

I think you may have overplayed this one.

Any chance he calls with worse? I doubt it.

without any reads on the villian (which i assume you don't have since it appears to be your first hand), or of the suits on the board, it appears to be a terrible play -- you'll lose all worse K's and get called 68, 88, and 66.

maybe if you have a flush draw that you haven't mentioned or the other dude is an idiot who will call with KQ this could be acceptable.

edit: also, why are we betting less than half the pot on the flop?

Gotta agree with Big Jim here. If you have any respect for the player, looking at a set or slow played aces, more likely a set. Donks might do this with TT-QQ, but have to have a good read on that.

bet more on the flop

also do you really think KQ-KT calls your 3-bet all-in

looks like you ran into 88 or 66

suits important or no?

i think the push sucks pretty bad against 49/50 of opponents.

jim how do you play the hand if you dont 3bet the flop? when i get in these spots i say to myself "top pair isnt great here, dont play a big pot" and then proceed to pay off his value bets when he has aa or a set. if he bets 250 or 300 on the turn do you call? fold if hes a tight player and if hes someone who won't do this with a draw to bluff? i suck at these spots, i guess i need to fold more against straightforward nits. i end up saying "well i have tptk, and im getting 2-1..."

On a two tone flop with no read...

I lead for closer to the pot (at least 2/3-3/4), call the raise, lead a blank turn, fold to another raise. Check/call river, if we get there.

If turn is not a blank, sometimes same line, sometimes check/call block river, sometimes just check/fold.

He also had AK without a draw, and we split.

I like the flop bet as it presents weakness and gets him to come after you but then pushing is not the right thing to do, you should just call.

I love cats too but not raw.

That's worth putting in your notes.
