basic, boring hand ( ithink)
pokerstars 1/2 6max
1st raiser is 36/16.
2nd raiser is new to the table, so no stats
i did bet him out of one pot, firing on every street when he was on a draw (i assume)

i guess i could have smooth called preflop, but i figured to isolate the small stack. thoughts?

Good raise, isolating MP's short stack. NH.

I'd only raise to $70, enough to get shorty all-in. If MP pushes over the top of that, you can fold to his AA and save yourself $10. Not 100% sure I would fold at the table, but I think a push from MP in that situation is an obvious AA?!?

The thing you should be thinking about is when you raise, if MP calls and Button calls all in, what happens on the flop?

In your case there will be about a $200 main pot, and a $70 side pot. You want a side pot large enough so MP will feel more committed, and may think you are bluffing at the side pot. Betting into a dry side pot with a good hand sucks becaues you usually don't get called.

I like your $80 bet, because it creates a significant side pot. I think a bet that just puts button all in is a bad bet, because if MP calls there's not side pot.

[/ QUOTE ]you have the right idea, but there is no reason youd need to bet so much... making it 50 accomplishes the exact same thing, but doesnt totally price you in if the initial raiser pushes (in which case you are fvcked).

I agree. But only if by 'fvcked' you mean 'happily getting it in against a very wide range of hands'. But yes, even a min raise would do the trick here. You can also just call. Shorties love to get it all in on the flop anyways. You can't really go wrong with this hand.
