View Full Version : MLL Week 4 - The King is Dead, Long Live the King

Who the hell is Aargh57, and why can't he be stopped?

Want to sign up for the MLL? Just contact anyone in the roster about playing a game, post the results, and you're in. So so simple. Post here with any questions you might have.

The Micro Limits League is a heads-up league in the style of college football. All players are free schedule their own games and determine their own path through the league. Your results are based on two things and two things only : how well you played and how tough your opponents were. There's no handicapping by ending up with a tough path through the bracket, and you'll never have to be concerned with getting your results in by a specified time. This is your league.

How it works - Visit the MLL thread for a given week, where you will find a list of all MLL members. If you'd like to challenge someone, the recommended way to set it up is to send them a PM on the subject and leave them plenty of ways to contact you. Or you can hammer it out through the PM. The time of the game is entirely up to you, the only thing required for the league is that you play a 25BB .02/.04 freezeout. That way no one's losing more than $1 at a time. At the completion of the game, it's customary for the loser to post in that week's thread saying who they lost to. If the loser forgets to post it within a few hours, the winner can post it. At that time, I'll plug your game into my incredibly complicated matrix, run it through many filters, translate it to French, and include it in the next week's wrap up.

MLL Week 3 slowed down a bit farther. I've decided to set the bar at 3 games played to get some more people in the rankings and encourage some activity.

Ah, ok. I guess I need to review just how this ranking thing is handled. I thought that win percentage was the #1 factor, and then strength of schedule second, meaning all people at 3-5 would be grouped together. I saw you at 3-5 with bottomset below you, and not me, so I was confused.

Paxosmotic : 37.5 win percentage, 54.7 strength of schedule, 41.59 opponents strength of schedule = 43.0 rating

Bottomset : 40 win percentage, 40.38 strength of schedule, 56.45 opponents strength of schedule = 42.46 rating

MrWookie47 : 37.5 win percentage, 44.64 strength of schedule, 49.90 opponents strength of schedule = 41.31 rating

Beat tougher opponents. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Win % is the number one factor, but strength of schedule affects rankings too and moves people up down and around. Win % accounts for 57.14% of your rating.

Pax - I'm glad you made this post because it reminded me of something I was curious about. I was hoping you'd share the forumla you're using with us.

Since you give that win % counts as 57.14% of your rating and gave a few examples, I calculated that SOS counts for between 28.54 - 28.59% of your rating, and that opponents SOS therefore must count for 14.27 - 14.32% of your rating (assuming those are the only three variables you're using). I can't pin it down more accurately with only 3 examples due to rounding.

Of course, I don't know how you're calculating SOS. Anyway, I'm just curious. Maybe I'm the only one?

Paxosmotic
10-22-2005, 08:21 PM
Win % is 4/7ths, opponent's win % is 2/7ths, and opponent's opponents is 1/7ths. I'll elaborate more later.

They sure were.

I promise everyone on this forum that I have a lot more patience than everyone here. I will bump MLL threads 3 times a day, every day, until December 31st. I have absolutely no problem with talking to myself clear til then. So if you want to shut me up, you play poker.

Save the MLL!

Someone play me NOW. The MLL is important and I am going to make some time for a match. Besides I have a new mod for the Stars table and cards I want to see. PM me or post. I may get on AIM in a minute too.

SN is PygmyHero everywhere - Stars, here, AIM, etc.

Bump. Come on - I need an opponent. I am going to start AIM-ing and PM-ing everyone and their mother if no one responds in the next few minutes.

Now is a good time too - the Stars lobby shows short / non-existent waiting lists on the $0.02-$0.04 HU tables. I can also get to Prima if someone is more inclined to do that.

Comments: 101 hands. The tone was pretty much set right away as I had the good fortune to be dealt AA twice in the first 13 hands, only to lose big pots both times. Wook took away half my stack a few times and I came back, but it was not meant to be. I fought off 2-3 all-ins, but it was to no avail.

But the MLL is saved.

Okay, noob questions:

This is all at Pokerstars?

I don't play at Pokerstars...but from what I gather, setting up an account is no big deal there because they don't have any particular signup bonuses, or rakeback, or anything to really consider beforehand...?

Pyro, that's correct. Some games have also taken place at the Prima play money tables, but most are at Stars.

Guys, I love ya, but the entire reason PygmyHero puts together the MLL roster along with SNs is so that you can contact people to play games. Everyone is just posting in threads saying "I'm available, IM me", which means you're waiting for someone else to do the leg work. Why not be proactive? Come to the thread, pick 5 screennames from the list, and send IMs basically amounting to "Stars .02/.04 in 5 minutes, bitch." Get your games going that way. It's a lot more likely to get a response since you're coming right to their IM. I've never had a problem getting a game when I've wanted one. Yet we have people posting here that their post in the thread didn't get a reply. So what? Seek people out, that's why we have the list.

Oh, and play more matches.

aargh57
10-25-2005, 01:44 PM

maybe,

I might be busy by then (that's 5PM CST I think) but I'll IM you if I'm not. I shouldn't have written that retort to PAX. He's right, we should schedule our our own matches more and not post the IM me posts here as much. Sorry.

MrWookie47
10-25-2005, 02:33 PM
Taking the initiative is great and all, but consider this, Pax: by posting IM me requests in this thread, we at least bump it to get people thinking about the MLL again. Surely these posts are more productive than just having you bump this thing three times a day.

I think its fine to post here, because like the wook said, it bumps this thread. I see no reason why it should ever leave the first page and if it ever does I'll bump it back there the instant it happens. Also, PMs/AOL are easier to set up matches with. And Aargh57, lose more matches pleeeease.

Paxosmotic
10-25-2005, 03:42 PM
I love that people are posting and bumping the thread, and think they should continue doing that, but I think people should be actively seeking matches. Maybe post in the thread and start IMing people, that kind of thing.

Pax - you can consider me properly chastened for my use of the thread to contact people.

However, I must respecfully disagree with you for three reasons.

As Wook points out, it is good to keep re-bumping the thread.

In the pre season thread, I anticipated this problem and suggested we have a thread with the sole purpose of people posting open challenges at any time. Wook pointed out that this would take up two spots on the front page, which is a fair point. The use of the weekly thread for posting an open challenge was part of the trade off.

I am very rarely on AIM, but I religiously check my email every 5 minutes. So the best way to get ahold of me is actually just to post in this thread. I see challenges pretty quickly - just haven't had the time to take them. I know that's a weak point since I may very well be alone on that one though.

Anyway, regardless, everyone's goal is just to see everyone playing more matches. I think Wook felt it his duty as a mod to play me, which I appreciated. It was difficult for me to make time also, but the MLL is important damnit!

If results aren't posted like this or at least easily discernable as a match, they'll be ignored starting this week. That means if you post saying

"i cant believe how lucky i just got against wook!"

Then you're going to be sorely disappointed when you don't get credit for the win. I'm not going to psychoanalyze every post in this thread trying to decide if you're talking about a new match, an old one, or what. Post your results clearly.
