View Full Version : Heads Up: Fold the best hand?

I'm in a series of heads-up matches with a friend. Blinds are 100/200 with stacks of 10k. My stack is down to 5k.

I'm on the button with Ks2c. I call, villain checks.

Flop: Kc4s7c

Villain checks, i bet out 500 vilain pushes, i call.

I'm pretty sure that i have the best of it, putting villain on the flush draw and possibly bottom pair. Which means that villain has seven solid outs, and possibly 5 more for trips or two-pair. Granted he COULD have a king, but my read tells different.

Now my question is: did i make a mistake in not raising the pot PF so that i could bet out more on the flop to scare him away? Should I fold, thinking that i could get my money in when i'm a larger favorite?

How would you have played the hand?

EDIT:

Another hand that was bothering me. First hand of the match.

I'm dealt AcQs on the button. I raise to 500, villain calls.

Flop: Jc8s2d

Villain checks, i bet out 700 and villain calls.

Turn: 7d

Villain checks, i check.

River: 9h

Villain bets 700 i call.

Ok, i know it sounds like a stupid question. But i'm not TOO shortstacked and if he does indeed has a piece of the flop, i'm on the wrong end of a coin-flip.

I'm just curious what i should be concerned about: trying to double up any way i can, or try to pick at his stack and get money in with better edges.

Hint, you are in the wrong forum (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=plnlpoker)

Sorry to give you a hard time. Sometimes I like to guess the answer to a post just by looking at the subject, then read the full post and see how close I got. Here are some other examples:

Flopped set HU, Give him a free card?
No.

Bet river?
Yes.

I'm beat, is it worth finding out by what?
No.

Overplayed KQ?
Yes.

Folded winner in 25bb pot for 1 bet. Correct or not?
Not.

Worth it or spewing?
Spewing.

33 - Who is right Baronzeus or PartygirlUK ?
Neither.

It's partly just a stupid game I play, but also maybe a good exercise in testing out how often the obvious answer is the correct one. In my opinion, often!

In terms of the correct forum, this one is almost entirely focused on limit Hold'em. However, I don't mind the occasional heads-up NL/PL post and would hope that some of the better NL/PL players who hang out here would chime in with their opinions.

My opinion on the hand is that you should have raised pre-flop. What were you thinking?
