My video card ( and no, I don't know what kind of card it is ) has what appears to be a DVI and a VGA output connector on it. Does this means that it can support two monitors, one of the VGA and one on the DVI?

Ultimately, no, it depends on the card, but typically it can support 2 monitors, often times there are converters too so that you can do 2 VGA monitors.
