Should I have pushed instead of calling when it got around to me preflop? I'm not folding no matter what comes, which argues for a push, but I smooth called to try and make sure the original raiser came along too. What do you think?

I think that's a mistake. Just push.

Flat calling for half your stack preflop? Where is this 'standard?'

1. We have AA.
2. Our goal is to get as much money in the pot with the most amount of equity.
3. A push or re-raise may scare off the original raiser, as he would end up with T1240 (blinds of 75/150) by folding.
4. We're obviously not folding, so we're cold-calling.

The more I think about, the more I think this was a mistake. The original raiser put in almost half his stack, and since we are still 8 handed, he isn't going anywhere if I push. If the OR smooth calls too, he may be able to get away from the flop, so I have to get all the chips in now. Made a mistake here, but still got all the chips in, another good sign toward me finding the positive side of variance again.

It also invites a lot of people into the pot, which you don't want. Also, I believe you are strongly mistaken in thinking that cold calling gets more money in the pot. I mean, what?

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that cold-calling gets more money in the pot, but by reraising you are creating "fold equity" for the original raiser, which you don't want to do when you have aces..

And this: [ QUOTE ]

I initially thought you played it well, then realized that the first raiser put half his stack in...so he's putting in the rest.
