I have trouble telling the difference telling the difference between 'I can't believe it's not butter' and the other margerine we get.

Sometimes I can't believe its not 'I can't believe it's not butter'.

What kind of name is that? You could say that about anything in the store if you're stupid enough. You could stand in front of the lawn furniture, like:

"I can't believe it's not butter."
"It's lawn furniture."
"I know! I was expecting butter."

2001 has better special effects than the original Star Wars.

This sounds like a claim someone would make and then not back down from because it is so absurd and is much more humorous if he stands by it.

Was it, better special effects for it's time? becacuse stars wars compared to anythign else from that period, ,and jurrasic park vs anyything in that small time period, might be legit.

but t2 is a good argument.

Ding ding, we have a winner. In fact, Lucas used 2001 as inspiration for quite a few of his visual effects in Star Wars. That being said, much of the technology, for visual effects, film and sound-editing and so on, that we are used to today were pretty much pioneered by Lucas and his team. So in that regard your friend's claim isn't that silly.

no, it was special effects measured on an absolute scale, not in comparison to its peers.

he threatened to throw me out of the car when i said, "i guess star wars was good for its time."

good call on who framed roger rabbit, btw.
