Colored screen names

Sorry if this has been talked about (I've been traveling for a month and just got home), and feel free to lock this thread as soon as I get a response... but what is with all the nick names in color.

Diablo, Daryn in black. Peachy in pink. sfer in white.

What is going on?

P.S. I want to be black!

Mods are giving out favors to their friends.

Anybody want this colored screen name thing get completely out of control? I say we go for it.

Anybody who responds to this thread, will get their screen name changed to the color of their choice (other than red or green). Just respond with the color you want.

I should be online for the next hour or so as well as later tonight.

i think the top forum contributors should each get a color.

like all the mid high contributors can be black, and all small stakes posters will be some type of metro pastel.

This was already attempted.

Also, for the record, I didn't really care about the colors to any great degree. But they were being overused, IMO. As I've already said to a few of the mods, I thought making the site reps. black was a pretty good idea.

I'm just happy the issue is settled and that there is finally a clear 'policy' about it.

The thing is as it is now and was precolor explosion, colors had meaning that benefited 2p2 users. Red meant admin or author and Green meant Moderator. These colors had purpose.

The other colors had no purpose. Thus, I do think it is appropriate to look at issues like forum presentation when deciding their fate. Of course this is all a matter of opinion and can't be argued conclusively in either direction.

I believe that most if not all of these are admin functions, not moderators, but I'll give it a go:

* re-enable signatures
* separate display name from login name so that users can change their names at will
* start a "graemlins" thread, and then add the images posted to the thread as new graemlins

Users have the option to turn off avatars. Colored screen names are there whether you want them or not. That makes it pretty different, in my opinion.

seriously, part of what I love about 2+2 is the lack of signatures. If it could me made that sigs were 1 or 2 lines, text only, that would be cool, but we don't want to wind up with [censored] like this. For the record, I would hate to see signatures on these forums, for the very reason tony pointed out.

Dynasty asked for suggestions on what would cause another mod tempest, and those things came to mind.

I thought the colored name thing was rather poor from a site-usability standpoint (colored names do mean something, after all). But it was silly and fun for a while.

The only one of those suggestions I made that fits this description is the graemlin thing. Silly and fun for a while to see this mess (http://www.frostjedi.com/phpbb/posting.php?mode=smilies) for a day or two.
