I have been watching that Rome series on HBO and I hear its somewhat historically accurate. Has anyone read any good history book on Rome that depict their day to day life.

The series is great. If you like the show, you would like Colleen McCullough series on ancient Rome, they are very good. It's not so much about everyday life as the history of Rome from Marius through Julius Ceasar. Covers a lot of the territory of the show.

The First Man in Rome 1990
The Grass Crown 1991
Fortune’s Favourites 1993
Caesar’s Women 1996
Caesar 1998
The October Horse 2002

I'm almost positive that there's a primary source called "daily life in rome." search for it on amazon. it may be a variation of those words, but I bought it for a roman history course. ughhh I can't remember who wrote it, but try searching for it.

Check out "The Histories" by Tacitus. It's a very good primary source for daily life in Rome.

It's fiction, but 'I Claudius' and 'Claudius the God' are pretty goddamn good.

I learned a lot of Roman history from playing "Rome-Total War".

Not history per se, but Stephen Saylor's novels really do a good job or recreating what life was like in the late Roman Republic. They're fun to read as well.

Great books and the politics in them makes Rome the Series seem tame.

I'm glad Rome is starting to take off. Things should really start happening rapidly at this point until the end of the seaseon if they follow the general timeline.

Rome history online. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julius_Caesar)

Octavian the kid will probably be the main guy once the HBO Rome season ends. I wouldn't be surprised if he is the last person shown in the whole series.

Check "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" by Edward Gibbon for the most comprehensive history of the late Empire you'll find.
