I like using Texas toast to make French toast.

And I don't mean after its been buttered/grilled, they sell really think white bread called texas toast that I assume is meant to be used to make the real thing...

Best french toast I've ever had was at a place called Petunia's on St. Louis in the French Qtr.

Thicker, crustier bread ==> better french toast

Try making it from some day-old leftover baguette remains sometime.

Recently when the U.S. was angry at France, in the Congressional cafeteria the name 'French Fries' was replaced with 'Freedom Fries'.

If you are really asking, there was a point after France's initial stance on the war in Iraq where Americans were pissed at them (shocking, I know) and out of spite, some Congress cafeterias changed the name of "French *" to "Freedom *" so it was Freedom Toast, Freedom Fries, etc. It caught on a little bit, and some restaurants did it too. The fad died down quickly though.

A good substitute for challah is some stuff called King's Hawiian Bread...available at most grocery stores, comes in a big, round loaf in an orange bag.

You forgot nutmeg. Oh, and in addition to a splash of vanilla extract toss in a splash of Meyer's Dark Rum. Mmmmm-mmmm-good. And take the Aunt Jemima and SIIHP...either use real syrup, or, for a special treat, dust your toast with powdered sugar and then drizzle with lemon juice...no syrup needed.
