Our rugby team used to have "The Inebriator," which could hold 11 beers. It was basically a huge beer bong made from a lot of plastic piping and a huge dump valve and four lines. It has made many a man drunk.

I'm not sure if its still in existence or not.

I worked in a medical bar where they had some big jar=thing called a 'tardis' that held 2 3/4 pints. You had to drink it in one was teh game. The rugby team used to come in, strip naked (completely) in a public bar, and drink these in front on a rubbish bin, so they could heave straight into it after drinking, and still carry on drinking.

Cool huh.

Met IndieMatty and 2+2 legend DrSavage for dinner last night. Paluka was supposed to join us, but he bailed at the last moment claiming he had "stuff to do." Weak. Anyway, that was all the better for the rest of us, since we no longer had to worry about going to a place that would cater to Paluka's pain in the ass vegetarian ways and could actually go someplace sweet.

Savage suggested a great Korean BBQ place near Penn Station. It was excellent.

We then proceeded to Tonic (http://www.thetonicbar.com/media/tonicbarnointro.html) to watch baseball and have some drinks. I was drinking Stella, Matty was drinking Newcastle, and Savage stayed true to his Russian heritage by drinking vodka (and cranberry). I am embarrassed to say that in the course of the game, IndieMatty lapped me not once, but twice. I tried to save some face by challenging him to outdrink me on a weekend night, but it backfired as he confidently and dismissively mocked the challenge.

Six beers at once here as well. The big beer bong in my fraternity required the holder to be hanging out a window, off the fire escape, or in a tree (the preferred method). Several others in the house could do it as well. I went to a reunion a couple of years ago, and the underclassmen challenged me to a race. They had a valve set up on their bongs so that a team of four could bong the six beers. I laughed heartily when they asked me to assemble my "team" and whipped their pansy asses singlehanded six ways to Sunday. I have a couple of great pics of them gaping in awe at my prowess.

Am I the only person alive who doesn't like Stella?

One of my Irish friends was always drinking it, and I assumed that it must be good, because people from europe are cultured and have good taste. I finally tried some and it was just so "meh".

I'm not a big beer drinker, and generally believe that wrt beer "if you can see through it, it's piss", but Stella seemed especially non-remarkable.

Am I the only person alive who doesn't like Stella?

One of my Irish friends was always drinking it, and I assumed that it must be good, because people from europe are cultured and have good taste. I finally tried some and it was just so "meh".

That's right, $.60 to fly like the Bird.

To this day if someone sez "What's the word" I blurt out "Thunderbird".

I dunno, I think it's pretty good. It's the beer that everybody has on tap around here, and I generally get draft beer and generally like lagers and pale ales. I think a lot of the more mass-market continental European beers (Stella, Heineken, Amstel Light etc) fall into a close category for me with Stella being the best.

Also, Czechvar is good.

By "picked up some" I assume you mean bought at the store. I agree. It has to be on tap.

I didnt realise 20/20 originated in the States as well, this was the stock drink of the 15-16 year old lasses when we used to hang out on the street. Obvioulsy this was before alcopops that they all drink now.

Its also known as Wife-beater as its one of the stronger beers on tap in pubs over here....albeit by a small %...

As for 20/20.....fun times being a 15 yr old....

As well as tasting [censored], Stella seems to be drunk exclusively by yobs round here. More reserved men drink Carling.

I heard this when I was over there too - kind of a silly and misleading nickname, since Stella is really not that strong of a beer at all (as you alluded to). If you want a strong beer, try Sam Adams Utopia...25% ABV. Granted, it really doesn't taste anything like beer, but wow!

Yeah, Stella is middling at best. Can't go wrong with a nice cold Heineken though.

I don't want to diss Stella. It's a good standby sometimes when you have limited choices; but I agree with this. It's a distant second to Heinekan, in that I always question "Why the [censored] do they drink that stuff?".

Heinekin in Europe is a good beer. Whatever they put in it at the docks before shipping to the U.S. makes it the foulest smelling beer in the world. And the next day - wow. A bottle of Heinekin left overnight in the kitchen can be smelled in the attic next door. Stuff is awful. Reminds me of Lagavulin single-malt: "Och aye me lads. Tastes like a fecking ashtray! I know, ship it the yanks! They'll drink her."
