A friend and I debated this hand for a while. I think the flop was a clear check/fold. He says I have to bet it. He's a decent player, so I thought I'd ask here.

Hi Gerry,

You should remove the rest of the hand, as it is irrelevent to whether or not the flop should be bet but may taint the responses.

By the way, personally I'd check and fold, as I am out of position with a very weak hand in a fairly small pot.

good luck.

Ahh yes, perhaps I should. But people here are disciplined enough to just focus on the flop, right?? /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thx for the response. I am pretty certain about the check, but since he is a good player I figured I should ask.

I would call for one bet here. I think that there's a pretty good chance I'm in the lead. The pot is small, but small pots need love too. I'll bet a lot of turn cards that are ugly and check/fold the rest. I bet if I hit a 3 or 7.

i think your friend is wrong here. not only is your hand super-vulnerable but you really have no kind of redraw or anything. kind of a reverse implied odds situation. i would check and fold

also you're in the worst position and are likely to get raised on this very coordinated board by who knows what. you'll never know where you're at the whole hand. bad.
