So I just arrived in Chicago last week and decided to check out the action at Harrah's East Chicago. The room was full on a Saturday afternoon and the lists were long. For the first few hours, I played over in a 20-40.
The first hand that I played I three bet a middle position raiser with QQ, bet the flop and turn on a rag board and checked down when a K hit the river. He turned over KJo and took the pot.
So my first instinct was "Hey, the games here aren't so different from California after all".
The guy I was sitting in for returned and I joined a friend of mine playing 10-20. Usually, playing in the mid-limit games in the Bay Area, I would be struck by how people could make calls with the utter garbage that they held in their fist.
Here, I was equally blown away by the laydowns that some people would make. Someone leaves in the blinds and my friend and I both post 10 with a small blind on the button. The button raises and I three bet with AJhh. The button calls, and I fire the whole way on a ten high board that pairs low. I bet the river for value, truly thinking that I have the best hand. After I bet, the guy turns up two red queens and looks at me. I look back, having no idea if he is calling or raising or what. He then turns to the dealer and says "I pass".
I'm still floored.
Looking forward to adjusting my game,
RH
