only one can remain in oot.

The rules. You can vote by one of two methods. Post your vote below for who leaves or if you would rather you can PM me.

The contestants are free to state their case or otherwise attempt to sway people's vote.

To be eligible to vote. You mush have been a 2p2 member since 8/01/05 have more than 50 posts and not be a gimmick account.

So is OOT now turning into your own private SimForum and you get to have all these twisted contests and public executions and whatnot?

If we weren't on such good terms I think I might cry fascism.

However, in this case the gruesome display suits my preferences, so I will participate, and if it bites me in the ass down the line, so be it. It's only an internet forum.

Goodbye, ThinMan.

You are treating OOT as your own personal little kingdom or island or whatever. Twoplustwo allowed you to be a mod to clean up the forum, and keep things tasteful. Though I don't disagree that the content in some of the banned posters' threads should not be here, as with all other mods, banning should be your last resort. Well said. I just want to add one thing: if one or both of the people up for banning have broken rules of OOT for which the punishment is banishment, then they should simply be banned. Why have a vote? It's not like every OOTiot is up to date on the offenses of Jake and ThinMan.

Oh, wait, now I remember: it's just childishness. I can't believe someone gave [censored] power over this forum, and I can't believe he hasn't lost it yet.

Let them both stay.

You are breaking your own rule that you set as a bannable offense for this forum.

You have other tools at your discretion for cleaning up this place such as the ability to edit, delete, or move unwanted posts. Try using those instead of banning everyone.

[/ QUOTE ]

When Mat gave [censored] mod privelages it was with the IDEA that he would be banning anyone that he didn't like. [censored] made it VERY clear that was what he was going to be using his mod powers for. Most of OOT said yes and Mat said yes. So I don't know why you think that Mat would suddenly care now.

[/ QUOTE ]

I was not aware of this, but this is outrageous. I guess if that's what OOT and Mat wanted, then OK.

FWIW, I really enjoy reading twoplustwo and OOT, but I think I'm going to stop posting in OOT now. I wouldn't want to say anything to offend [censored] and get banned and not be able to use the other forums. I'll still read it, and I'm not worried anyone is going to miss me as I'm not much of a contributor to this place anyways. I hope this mess eventually gets sorted out.

For future matches, why not have each contestant make one thread. Whoever's thread get ranked higher, wins.
If you have already decided you can vote without viewing the content of the thread. If you are unsure the content of the thread could be the deciding vote.

This does have a possible fault of anonymous voters, but each person must make a post saying what they rated the thread.

Can mods see who rates a thread?

it seems like you were already doing that, and i didn't mind the idea. i don't really have a problem with you banning people that are being trolls and breaking sensible rules and whatnot.

i am not sure how jake qualifies as the bottom 10% though or deserving of a banning. and i think the results of this were obvious. so this is pretty unnecessary except you thought it would be fun.

stamping the banished with your mark, making a public list of those banned, starting threads of poster vs poster for banishment, constantly replying to threads to give your opinion whether or not it is a worthwhile thread, and all the other weird stuff that seems to be drawing attention to your movement to me is a ridiculous way to go about moderating this forum to 'make it better' in the sense you imply - it might add entertainment value for drama, but i see it as a completely different sense of 'better' than you are expressing you want.

people say they want a 'better OOT' , but this is the kind of stuff we get from those saying it. this thread is popular, but where is the intelligent, insightful discussion here you seek ? just because you started the thread does not give it any more quality than if some random poster started a different "which poster do you like better?" thread, except for you are a mod and can ban someone as a result of the votes. the concept is the same.

if people want better quality posts here, then they need to start creating more quality threads, rather than replying to the threads created just to say they suck.

i don't really have anything against you or your intentions [censored], i am mostly being the devils advocate here because it seems contradictory.. the whole thing is funny. although i still think this thread is mean.

[/ QUOTE ]

The reason it is necessary for things to be public and "mean" is so that everyone gets a loud and clear message of what is going on.

I'm not concerned about being mean but it's not something i'm striving for either.

Look at this thread and how the result was not even close. I knew it would be like this but I wanted to make the point that it's not just me who is fed up with posters like thinman it's practically the entire forum.

If I just ban him then it simply becomes another banning by [censored] of someone he doesn't like.

perhaps I am bit too quick to label a thread as being bad but when someone asks me why I listed him as a troll and then makes a post which led me to that opinion I don't think it is unfair to then tell him.

The only other case of this recently was the mod thread which I think I was very fair in. I simply asked the question what it was about the thread they liked and if people thought it was interesting. Once it was clear that is was something people really enjoyed, I sent the OP a PM saying I was wrong and good job. What about the process was unfair?

Listen people are going to get their feelings hurt during the process of cleaning house and its just not something i'm concerned with.

I am however willing when it comes to things like thread quality to change my mind if it becomes clear good posters disagree with me. As I have done one a few occassions. When I post that I think a thread sucks its because I want to hear what people think before I start banning or whatever. In the cases where I don't want hear opinions I simply ban them (STLantny, Theben). Now which of those two processes do you think is more fair to someone like Jihad who I haven't made my mind up about.

Instead of getting all offended people simply need to say as Boris did, hey I disagree and think the thread is good. This was also done with the Jesus thread.

Trying to agrue about the process of me banning is pointless .

The ban only affects OOT, not any other forum. I wouldn't support it at all if it did, either. But losing posting privileges in OOT is not all that terrible, especially if it is only happening to people who are violating rules.

If it just turns into a personality thing entirely, then it's being done wrong. I'm not aware of either Jake or Thinman breaking rules, or doing so enough to warrant being selections, but maybe [censored] has info on that.

I kind of think that [censored] should make a brief listing of each candidates crimes and the frequency or severity thereof. It doesn't have to be extremely revealing or descriptive, but would probably make us more likely to feel any banning is warranted. It would get the forum more comfy with backing the actions he takes and with voting.

I understand he may simply not like some people, but for the vote, I'd like to know if that's all there is to picking the people.

I'm fickle, and how mean-spirited this whole thing is, is still up in the air, I think. As [censored] notes, he's just going to ban who he doesn't like anyway, so at least this way we have some input. Just a guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if most of the people put up were folks he was going to ban anyway, and I'm very sure he knew how this one was going to come out before he made it.

[/ QUOTE ]

There's something in that.

That's why there should probably be a "neither," as well as a listing of the defendants' crimes. It wouldn't take the mean-spiritedness out of it entirely, but would provide context. I think how mean it is depends highly on who is chosen to be in contests. I'm assuming [censored] will have good reason for his choices, but like I say, I'm taking it on a case by case basis. If someone goes out of his way to be a jerk, I honestly think they'd be the last one either surprised at a banning or having their feelings hurt by one. If done right, the only people in the contests would be the people who were practically begging to be there. Which pretty much eliminates the meanness factor.

That's the thing -- there's a difference between real and theoretical meanness. As completely stupid as that probably sounds, it's true.

[/ QUOTE ]

it seems like you were already doing that, and i didn't mind the idea. i don't really have a problem with you banning people that are being trolls and breaking sensible rules and whatnot.

i am not sure how jake qualifies as the bottom 10% though or deserving of a banning. and i think the results of this were obvious. so this is pretty unnecessary except you thought it would be fun.

stamping the banished with your mark, making a public list of those banned, starting threads of poster vs poster for banishment, constantly replying to threads to give your opinion whether or not it is a worthwhile thread, and all the other weird stuff that seems to be drawing attention to your movement to me is a ridiculous way to go about moderating this forum to 'make it better' in the sense you imply - it might add entertainment value for drama, but i see it as a completely different sense of 'better' than you are expressing you want.

people say they want a 'better OOT' , but this is the kind of stuff we get from those saying it. this thread is popular, but where is the intelligent, insightful discussion here you seek ? just because you started the thread does not give it any more quality than if some random poster started a different "which poster do you like better?" thread, except for you are a mod and can ban someone as a result of the votes. the concept is the same.

if people want better quality posts here, then they need to start creating more quality threads, rather than replying to the threads created just to say they suck.

i don't really have anything against you or your intentions [censored], i am mostly being the devils advocate here because it seems contradictory.. the whole thing is funny. although i still think this thread is mean.

anyway , be sure to make a sticky once OOT is good. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

It amazes me that so many people chose to take part in this mean-spirited campaign. If you don't see how wrong this is...

You're supposed to grow up out of ostracizing people. You're supposed to stick up for the little guy. You're supposed to take a stand against any injustice regardless of how meaningless it may be.

Well done, CardsharkCook. The sophmoric dog and pony show that [censored] is putting on is one thing. It provides a low form of entertainment. The truly sad part is how quickly most of these people have become such bootlicking toadies. Groveling, fawning, and flinching in the face of such clear injustice, these neo-Bormann's are an embarrasment to themselves. Even responses to Cardsharkcook's post have been met with a typical yes-man "stfu" as if no real thought could possibly penetrate this stooge's mind.

To these henchmen, lickspittle's, and flunkies I say simply, "try to become men." The first two have been put up against the wall. What will your continual fawning say about you when it is your turn? Choose to have, instead, on your OOT epitaph that you stood up, fought against the shackles of tyranny, and embiggened even the smallest of posters.

For the few who have chosen to speak out over the simpering, and refuse to ingratiate themselves like the rest of the namby-pamby, spineless pantywaists, this thread gives hope. Clearly this thread shows that many will not join, nay, will struggle against, the hordes of lily-livered doormats that [censored] wants to gather around him.

I know it is hard for sheep to become men. Yet, to you weak-kneed, apple-polishing jellyfish I must implore you once more to take off your blinders to this obvious runaway child despotism and get up off your cowardly knees.

Oh, and I suppose I vote Thinman out.

In Solidarity, Hamish.

It's about time we had some Groundskeeper wisdom in this thread.

I don't really have an opinion on the banning stuff that has been going on...but if it leads to an "uprising" that is half as entertaining as the "Great Gimmick Uprising of '05", then I am all in favor of the current course of action.

This thread turned out to be very useful. I think we may have saved the forum here.

Thinman as 4 of his other known accounts have now been banned by me, mostly do to reasons beyond this thread. However this I believe was instruemental in getting rid of him.

So basically...you wasted everyone's time posting in this thread and banned him anyways? Also, if you knew the result would be a landslide why would you do this poll?

This thread is an abortion. Think of all the genius that could have come from people posting in this thread if they had put their time into better posts.
