after recieving a couple messages about my 'disdain' for tourney players, i decided to give kudos to one that impressed me. btw, my disdain isnt aimed at all tourney players, just the blowhard, highly overrated and obnoxious ones.

Gus Hanson was fun to watch. talking about having control over the table. this type of player can be a handful, pain in the ass in ringgames also. especially if he's hitting hands. it can be a long wait for the cards to turn. many of the remarks about him were what many players should strive for, IMO.

'can't put him on a hand' is what many said.

fearless with any cards. and not very much emotion with his play. there was some, but not much. usually when bet into, but not when betting. but the guys betting/raising into him still werent sure and looked like they were somewhat betting in the dark. not knowing if this was the hand he had it or not.

and winning with his 35os sure helped his image. too bad the allin player may have cost him some chips on that one. of course, if he'd have stayed in and hit a 7 on the end making a FH, views of that hand would be very interesting.

this was one of the best displays of mind games ive seen so far in the series. (i cant remember the 1st one he won. i may have missed it)

i still think van patten should take a hike. i think he cheapens the broadcast. but maybe that's what will draw new players .

i also liked cunningham, though i didnt see much of that one. i was just glad the australian idiot didnt win it. although, he did add some life to the table...as he held up the game to 'pick a card' to show.

have a good 'un

"i was just glad the australian idiot didnt win it."

how could you like gus nad not like that aussie guy? i thought the aussie guy was great. he was really angering his opponents and it was humorous tv. that guy definitely will bring some new players to the cardrooms.

overall it was another very entertaining show and seeing the 2+2 commercials was terrific. looking at stupak's face on the other hand was terrifying. did he have plastic surgery or a stroke or both? my wife screamed when he first came on the set.

I haven't seen any of these events. (This is the WPT thingy?) 2+2 comercials? What are those like?

stupak has a very 'joker' (batman) looking face. not sure the reason. but who knows. seems like a very cool guy though.

my main complaint with the aussie guy was that he held up the game. i dont mind a guy yapping, but keep the game moving. but that may just be the grinder in me coming out. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

"(This is the WPT thingy?)"

yeah.

"2+2 comercials? What are those like?"

it's just mason standing there holding up two cards, AKo, for about 20 seconds and then some old lady walks up to him and says "where's the beef?"

Bob Stupak was in a bad motorcycle accident on March 31st 1995 in Las Vegas at the corner of Rancho & Mason.

Stupak suffered massive face and head injuries, a fractured pelvis and a broken wrist and ankle. He was in a coma until April 12th 1995. His son (then 19) suffered a broken leg in the accident as well.

Hope that helps.

Give it a rest bernie,as far as inches per year its not much different then San Franciscos rainfall.Granted there are many gray days, but from July thru October you have sunny days, balmy nites, temperture in the 70s and 80s. I lived in the Seattle area for 30 yrs and not only is the weather great, the poker is very good.

Actually Seattle has a higher average rainfall 65% higher than San Francisco. Over 30 inches vs 20 inches

Over 41 inches/year! One of the reasons I'm close to moving to Vegas is to get away from the rain.

Several years ago I was in Vegas and it rained 3 days in a row. A local told me "it hasn't rained 3 days in a row in in my 18 years in Vegas". I don't know how true this is?

Bernie - you have my sympathy with regards to the rain issue.

not sure what brought up the rain deal, but...ill bite

the weather up here blows, for the most part. however, we do have gorgeous summers the 2 weeks it comes around a year as everything is green from the rain. and the warm nights are fantastic. i do really like a warm rain. but that's about it.

overcast sucks. plain and simple. it's gray sky far too often. why do you think the depression rate is high up here? that's one reason. especially seasonal depression. lots of sunlamps up here.

you also may not have been up here about 2 years ago when it rained for abut 4 months str8. yep, that's right, 4 damn months. true, it's not ordinary, but even many diehards were sick of it. not to mention what happens to sinus's and other stuff like cartlidge and ligament crap with the constant changes from rain to sun to overcast. any day can be a crapshoot. and your body can feel it.

another thing. you ever work up here where the weather can cost you money? probably not. i laid carpet for 13 years and when it rains, it can be a long ride, unpaid, back to the shop to make cuts if you cant find anyplace covered to make cuts. not to mention people's mudholes of driveways when they want a light colored carpet installed. you tend to notice more about weather when your income somewhat is a factor in it. the time could take 1-2 hours to drive back to the shop.

now i have noticed that since ive retired from that sh*tty business that i dont mind the rain as much. i still loathe it, but not to the depths i once did. ever see a picture of garfield (comic strip) when he's stuck out in the rain. ears pinned back and miserable. that was me.

and yes, the poker is good up here also. now only if theyd raise the limits.

and btw...i dont have any desire to go to SF either. but on the flip side, my vacation in arizona made me appreciate the green up here more. although AZ is nice and warm, it's also desolate with not much to look at other than a tumbleweed going by running into a cactus.

that all said, we're actually having a decent run of weather lately. which is nice. i always will maintain that a good washington summer is tough to beat. but the off times suck.

bernie,

I’m from CA but have lived in some lousy weather cities. Dallas for one has good weather about twice a year (fall and spring). The rest of the time it was windy, icy or hot/humid. Then there was Cinci – crap weather and no good food.

What ever, I hate lousy weather.

well some of us are pretty cruel then. i had a feeling it was something like that. seriously though he'd be an interesting guy for them to do a little 3 minute profile on if he hits a final table again.

btw i for one really love his dumpy casinos.

The 2+2 hand... you know, from the book covers.

Anyway, since I haven't seen the WPT segments I still have no idea what mike l was talking about concerning 2+2 commercials. I would think that would be pretty expensive. Maybe it was just a joke I couldn't get without seeing the show?
