I just sendt myself a PM, just to see if I could.
I used to play Spades online, and players could chat (except to the other players in their game), anyways, if you tried to message yourself, you would get a message saying 'talking to yourself is the first sign of pending insanity'
Here it seems to be completely normal /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
