View Full Version : Another awesome idea for you

[censored]

I got some positive feedback for my OOT survivor plan and I think its time to announce it and gain even more support.

Here is how it will work. Instead of me just banning of few posters for "just because" reasons I will instead allow OOT to participate and make it fun for everyone.

The plan

I choose 2 posters to face off against each other in a loser leaves OOT/gets banned match.

I then make a thread announcing the survival competition. Each user than has a chance to plead their case or otherwise persuade OOT that they should be the one who stays. OOTers are free to ask questions, come up with challenges, whatever you want. The only requirement is things must be contained to that thread so it doesnt clog up the forum.

Once it is time to decide a new thread non poll thread will be created where those want to will post theur vote.

I will impose certain qualifications that have to be met to vote, most likely being time as member, posts in OOT and non gimmick account.

The loser can either be banned or in the case of someone who posts in other forums simply exiled from OOT, free to post in the other forums but banned on sight in here.

Fair and fun for all involved, that's what I'm about.

post your support below

Interesting concept, how are the participants chosen, just people that made you hit list that day, or nomination?
I know you said "I will choose" but can you elaborate a little.

Go get 'em tiger, but honestly why waste the time, if someone is unpopular enough to get on the table, he'll just be put back after surviving unless there's some sort of double jepordy rule. Maybe I'm overthinking this, but it would seem that you have to decide what this forum is about, be it personal freedom or majority rule, sucks that we can't have both. Damn you personal responsibility.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think "exile from OOT" is sufficient enough to benefit OOT, and not be too harsh.

Furthermore, I have a suggestion.

Since you [censored] are Caesar of OOT, you should listen to your people, therefore I propose something.

On the first of every month, you 'exile' someone from OOT who the people of OOT have chosen within the previous month, example:

---------------------------------------
Thread title: [censored]'s November 1st banning.
Posted: October 2nd

Hey Guys, choose one OOT person who will be exiled from OOT on November 1st.
-------------------------------------

So from the 2nd-31st October, each OOT'er replies to thread simply stating a name, no reason necessary, just a name of a fellow member.

People who post more than a name are exiled from OOT (you have to keep the thread clean for your reading, and avoid "whinge-fests")

Come Nov 1st, you see who OOT chose, and exile that person, the duration of exile should be at least 1 month, however the decision is yours.

This will help you 'cull' and make OOT a better place, and furthermore it allows OOTers to give some imput about who they feel contributes to the decay of OOT.

Just a thought.

Cheers,
SDM

I hate to be a killjoy about this, but it just doesn't do anything, the board will still be bogged down with useless crap everyday, and although I personally don't have any problems with it, I understand the objections of those that do.
That said, would it not simply be easier to just ask the powers that be to create a new board, call it "Veteran OOT" or whatever name best suits you, and just set criteria for posting there, a list, post requirement, or Reg date.
Just spitballing at 5 AM for whatever it's worth.

I definitely like the imposition of length of service/no gimmicks etc.

However, if one doesn't want to play, is the contest then over, and it defaults to the other not getting banned? Or does the other guy have to do the performing monkey tricks too, and the vote becomes 'X stays/goes' instead of 'X stays/Y stays'?

And when can we start this 'dance, little monkey boy, dance!' baying, cos it's so morbidly inticing...

i've only played werewolf (http://www.gamerz.net/pbmserv/werewolf.html) through an email game server , but it is also a live roleplaying game, and i've heard of it being played on forums before with a 'game master'. this thread made me think of it.

it's a game that takes place in a small village, each player is assigned a role. werewolf, villager, or seer. there are also additional roles depending on version played.

there is a moderator that controls the game phases, night & day. at night the wereolves secretly select a villager to kill. if the seer is alive, they can find out if 1 person is werewolf or not. during the day phase, the villager who was killed is revealed and is out of the game. the remaining villagers (including the bad guys) vote on the player they suspect is a werewolf to be lynched, there is time for people to plead their case until day phase is over. then the player voted to be lynched by the village reveals their role and is out of the game.
villagers win when they have killed all the werewolves, and the werewolves win when there are an equal number of villagers and werewolves.

Why ban them at all? Exile them - no postings in OOT allowed.

Then we can all wait around to be the first one to catch an exiled poster violating their exile. Oh, what fun! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I know that you're good enough to only go after the OOT specialists, but if a poker poster does get into the fray somehow, and loses, I think he/she should be told, "one more post in OOT, and you're banned" rather than just straight up banned, if only because they actually try to be good in other forums.

Either way, let's get the Alizee and Alba teams set up, and get this thing going!

if we have a runoff of more than two shitty posters are we going to have links to their crap posts so we can have reference to their bile. b/c most of most of the posters that get [censored] are posters that i don't know so if there were 15 of them i would be lost.

it'd also improve dramatically if there weren't so many posts about moderation, and thread/post rating, but that isn't going to stop either.

I'm thinking about eliminating this step

[ QUOTE ]
I then make a thread announcing the survival competition. Each user than has a chance to plead their case or otherwise persuade OOT that they should be the one who stays. OOTers are free to ask questions, come up with challenges, whatever you want. The only requirement is things must be contained to that thread so it doesnt clog up the forum.

[/ QUOTE ]

And just make it a straight I pick the 2 and you decide who goes. No advanced warning, less clutter, a much cleaner kill all the way around.

Thank you for your support

I'm sort of tired of hearing about the levels/percentages of morons etc though.

Stupid polltards with no other redeeming features I get, as do I get those that deliberately put themselves up by including themselves in a should I stay/go when they know the consequences - along with those that specifically try and piss off [censored] and bring on their own ban.

BUT the stupid stuff and the good stuff sort of complement each other, IMHO. You don't want fine steak every day, sometimes you want junk food - and the variety adds to the richness of life, it doesn't detract!

Just choose what you want, fer goodness' sake! don't insist that everyone else must have fine steak every day....

this is a stupid idea
just go ban the people who start best album, band, singer, lyrics, song threads. that should keep you busy for a while

great idea. definitely do it. the idea of an exile clause where they keep their 2p2 account but just cant post in this forum is good. some people conduct their business over the forum and if i got banned totally i'd be [censored] pissed. so exile from oot. also, under what grounds will someone be allowed back? maybe a 1-2 month thing? i think for the lame ass new posters they will just quit the forum and not come back.

also [censored], i want to see more gut bannings. go with your instinct, we need to see more high profile people go.

the last time i looked the lucas poll had 300 something votes and i haven't even looked in over a day i am sure that voting someone out of OOT based on a poll created by [censored] will come down to 1 person's vote. think about how that sounds?

people will vote just to see the results.

[/ QUOTE ]
but it doesn't sound like there will be a 'no' option for either person, just choosing which one leaves. so there is no chance of keeping both people. like i said, it's unlikely oot would want to keep both people, i am just saying i think it's stupid if that possibility doesn't exist.

[/ QUOTE ]

Gorie may be on to something here. How about an A,B,neither, both setup. That way if two people that suck are up there we can vote them both out. If both are decent we can keep both. Unless you have some way to eliminate both options (say another run off later with the winner) then you should have the both and neither option.

how will you stop shill voting from fake accounts, though? it sounds like a cool idea, but i think an executioner council could be selected to do the votes (anonymously if desired, but it should probably be known who they are).

This is exactly why the vote will not be conducted by poll but rather by post.

that is you will have to make a post stating your vote. This will allow me to enforce my voting restrictions. I may allow votes condcucted via PM as well.

Question #2 needs to be addressed. Seriously, how many peopple here are going to "fight" to remain a poster on OOT if [censored] picks you?

[/ QUOTE ]

I think this is a valid question... and because of this, maybe we could get some side action going... sort of an OOT challenge.

Example, Thinman can challenge Jake. If Jake accepts the challenge, which we know he will /images/graemlins/wink.gif, Jake would get to set the consequences (ie no posting in OOT for 2 weeks, etc.). We can then let OOT decide what the challenge will be based on (D.S. MS Paint sketch, etc.). We'd give'em 2 days or whatever to meet the challenge the best they can and then we decide the winner.

Thoughts? Good idea or am I just a tard?

Obviously this would be self-imposed. Many people around here tend to get all bent out of shape with other posters and these things tend to drag on and inject themselves into many posts.. etc. This would just be an opportunity for someone to "man-up" if the wish and set things straight if they so declare to. There would not need to be any mod interaction here and if the consequences broken, would most likely lead to nothing more than OOT criticism or piling up. This would be something totally unique from your proposal which I also /images/graemlins/heart.gif

edit: Think of it basically as an OOT prop bet. The bet could be anything and the challenge like-wise. It could be nothing more than having the winner select the losers avatar (which has been done before), or for $$, or drinks, or whatever.. It would not necessarily have anything to do with banning, exile, etc. although it could.
